Simple and spice filled
Made it with my wife. I'm not a fan of it at all but she loves it! A bit of waste from waste during fermentation but still got about 9 bottles.

Best ever
Brewed this about 3 weeks ago. Added a tablespoon of honey with 5 minutes left in the boil. When I bottled it, my daughter said it's the best one I've ever done. Can't wait to taste the final product.

Pretty tasty
Easy to make and delicious. I enjoyed adding in some specialty grains for a little chocolate flavor.

Great!
Better than most pumpkin ale's I've had. I used about 85% of the small can of pumpkin. I also used a 1/4 teaspoon of pumpkin spice at the beginning of the boil and another 1/4 teaspoon of pumpkin spice at flame out. Turned out great.

Will brew this again next fall
I made a small batch of this just in time for Halloween/Thanksgiving, and really enjoyed it. Also got rave reviews from my beer-loving friends!

Very Refreshing
This was my second brew and it turned out awesome. 2 weeks fermenting and 2 weeks carbonating. I had my first sip and wasn't impressed, but then I let it sit for about 10-15 minutes in the fridge before finishing it. That really brought out a smooth and sweet barley flavor. I'm going to buy 5 gallon extract kit and add real pumpkin.

Holy Pumpkin!
Great brew! Loved it! Would absolutely make this again. Popped a bottle open last night, which lead to another. Can't wait to make this one again. I used the seasoning packet but will try the actual pumpkin next time.

This is going to be tasty!
Followed the instructions as per what NB suggested and added in 1 small can of pumpkin, 2 pounds of 6 row and doubled the spice. I left it in primary for 2 weeks and then bottled with the fizz drops that are supplied. I had some friends over after 2 weeks in the bottle to try out my first attempt at home brewing since I figured I might be somewhat biased since I brewed it. We all tasted it and thought that it was a bit under carbonated. Everyone agreed that the flavor was good but that it need a bit more spice to give it that pumpkin pie flavor.I just made a 5 gallon batch of this and added in some madagascar vanilla, and molasses along with some brown sugar. I cant wait for Halloween/Thanksgiving!!!

Outstanding!
I just cracked open my first bottle of my first homebrew, Smashing Pumpkin Ale. Wow! I cannot believe how good this is. Nice body, carbonated just right, kinda mad I only chilled one of these. In the primary for 2 weeks, 2 weeks bottle conditioning. I will certainly make this one again, perhaps with some added pumpkin and spices. Highly recommend.

Great winter brew
Just got done bottling my first batch of Pumpkin Ale. I tasted the left over product after I was done bottling and found it to be awesome. I can hardly wait to open a bottle. The one gallon kits are great for trying a kit without having to make two cases of beer. Now that I find this beer to be quite tasty I'll be purchasing the five gallon kit. I did experiment a little with the Pumpkin Ale by adding more Pumpkin spice and a cap of vanilla extract at bottling. I wreck omens this kit to anyone who wants to make a nice after dinner desert beer.

Thank you for choosing Northern Brewer! That kit is an extract recipe. All of our 1 gallon/small batch kits are extract kits. I hope that this helps!
Do I need priming sugar for this recipe?

BEST ANSWER: the kit comes with fizz drops, so no additional sugar is required.

BEST ANSWER: American Ales (AKA American Pale Ales) have a characteristic moderate to strong hop aroma that I wouldn't say is present in this recipe. This would be a Spiced Amber Ale. Cheers, and have fun brewing!
should I buy crushed 6 row or whole for this?

BEST ANSWER: This is really a "when will you use it" question. For the pumpkin ale recipe, you need it crushed. If you plan on getting it and using it right away - get crushed. Otherwise, if you plan on storing it for a while, get it whole.
I noticed that this recipe calls for adding 1lb of 6-Row if I'm planning on adding pumpkin. Could I substitute the 6-Row and do 1lb of Munich instead?

BEST ANSWER: The 6-row is added as it has a high amount of Amalayse enzyme to help break down the starches in the pumpkin. Munich malt does not have the same amount of enzyme. I would not recommend substituting.
Do the kits come with yeast included or do I need to buy it separately?

Hi,
We would like to add real pumpkin to this recipe and so we also need to purchase additional pale 6 row malt. When we do the statistical estimations, it shows the abv increase with the addition of the pumpkin and pale 6 row which makes sense because it's more sugar in the wort. Initially we thought about adding 1 lb of each. However if we would to add 2 lbs of each pumpkin and pale 6 row the abv goes up even higher. We definitely want to get that pumpkin taste but do not want to add so much sugar as to overwork the yeast during fermentation. What is the best option? Thanks!!
