A sample revealed a really nice smokey bacon aroma and taste. I know I'll be sampling bottles after one week.February 2, 2014If you love BaconI bottled this last weekend and those of us present passed around a glass of the beer before bottle conditioning. The smell seemed more like that of chocolate ice cream. The bacon taste is definitely present without being overbearing. Just a few steps above a hint of flavor. It's a fun novelty beer to keep around to impress your guests.February 25, 2014Pleasantly surprisedI wasn't quite sure what to expect but just the sound of it had my interest so I had to order it. Waited 2 1/2 weeks after bottling and was pleasantly surprised. The first sip seemed a little strong but it was also something that I wasn't used to tasting. It did mellowed out by the end of the glass. Everyone I gave this to (except the busch light drinker!) really like the flavor. I do suspect it will even be better with a little more age. Definitely will brew again for a special occasion.February 21, 2014Wow!If you like a subtly smoky flavored beer you have to try this one. Without a doubt this is the best I've brewed yet. I waited a month after bottling and the flavor is great. The reviewers that mention the strong smell at brewing are correct - but don't let that scare you away. I'm ordering another.March 9, 2014Wow! Outstanding!More smokey and bacony than I expected, but that is not a bad thing. I kinda made it as a joke because I like bacon and I like beer, but this is really excellent.February 21, 2014FantasticRich red, smokey, bacony, delicious! On my last bottle now and will have to order again.January 9, 2015SmokyTasted my first bottle today. Dark brown color, nice head with good lacing. Deep smoke flavor, may be a bit over powering for some, but I liked it. My wife, who isn't a beer drinker at all, liked the taste of this. I really didn't taste any bacon flavor, unless the smoky flavor is in fact bacon. This beer would be great along side a smoked brisket or a smoked pork butt. I plan to use it in some baked beans, think it will add great flavor. This beer has been in the bottle for 4 weeks. I would make this again. I am going on a fishing trip next week and will get a critique from my fishing buddies.April 4, 2014Great beer and I added chipotle peppersThis is a great beer for any party. After I fermented the Bacon Smoked Red Ale I split the batch. 3 gallons went in to one carboy. The last 2 gallons went to another carboy, but I add 2 chipotle peppers. both turn out awesome. I will brew this beer again.May 3, 2014Great Kit!!!!This is a great kit...........Just bottled today and the tasting is almost like drinking bacon if you let it breath a little first. After it ages and conditions some it ought to be just right...........I,m definitely going to re-order this oneJune 8, 2014
- Browse 3 questions Browse 3 questions and 6 answersIf I am going to keg can I just go to the keg and force carb immediately after fermentation is complete? Or does this brew need to condition for a bit?BEST ANSWER: I followed the instructions and as I recall a standard 1 week primary & 1 week secondary and then immediately kegged and force carbonated. Everyone loved the brew.
GregI have been unable to find it....what can one expect for the FG? I hit the OG...just looking for a target...thanks in advance.BEST ANSWER: My FG hit at 1.010. I also did a yeast starter as well. Your mileage my vary :).It seems the only issue that anyone has had with this brew is the over the top smoke....would it be advisable to cut that portion in half? Thanks in advance....BEST ANSWER: That would be a totally individual taste and choice. I just received my second batch since the first one went quickly and probably one of my all time favorite beers just as it is. I do not think it is over the top smokey, hence, the reason I would propose it is simply individual preference.
