Product details

Think of this as a British Bitter squared - more malt and more hops equals higher gravity, bigger body, more bitterness, and more intense flavors and aromas. A more complex beer than an "ordinary" low-gravity bitter, an ESB is a showcase for high-quality hops and brewing skill, meant to be enjoyed with consideration rather than merely quaffed. Our kit pours with a rich red color and white head and pronounced aromas of hop and fruit.

Excellent Brew

Typically reliable brewing method. Six weeks start to finish. Good flavor, color and head.

Brewing troubles

I got into brewing beer late in life. This was my 4th or 5th try, I made a mistake with the hops and added them in the wrong order. I'm not sure how that would affect the taste, it's drinkable but I have a long way to go I think. I also had several bottles that had a lot of trub in them, with all of those hops syphoning sucked up a lot of that stuff.
Next brew I will use muslin bags to hold the hops together.

Just bottled it.

Not bad. The last time I tried a bitter was in the 1980’s. It was an EDME extract. The ESB does not have the bite of an old English bitters.
