Petite Saison d'Ete Extract Beer Recipe Kit

The Petite Saison d'Ete was the sixth Northern Brewer kit I have tried. Once again I was pleased with the results. Directions were clear and the beer was easy to make. Ultimately the flavor is most important, and it was good. But I found my finished product was much darker than the "tawny gold" described on the website. I had the same result with the Irish Blonde Ale ... a much darker beer than expected. Is this more common when using an extract kit versus starting with all grains?

Follow the recipe directions. If you like Belgian beers you will be glad you did.

This beer is still conditioning for a few more days. I did sneak a taste when bottling and I believe it will be a nice summer brew. As usual, the brewing instructions were clear and the ingredients were all there as advertised. Another good experience with Northern.

I purchased this kit because I wanted a finished summer beer sooner than later, and the reviews for this saison are largely positive. Instructions are easy to follow. Two weeks in primary, put in secondary for a week to cut down on sediment, two weeks bottle conditioning.

Only 5 weeks and this baby is ready to drink! ABV came out to about 5.5%; a little stronger than anticipated, but I'm not complaining. Excellent example of the style, nice color and flavor. After warming up in the glass, there's a subtle note of black pepper on the finish. I imagine this will pair well with a variety of cuisine. Super tasty and refreshing, and drinkable any time of year. I will definitely buy this again.
