Product details

Jet-black in the tradition of Ireland most popular and well-known beers, this stout has a pronounced roasty, coffee-like flavor and aroma, imparted by a generous helping of roasted barley.

Arguably Ireland most famous export, dry stout has a loyal following all over the world. Our stout kit has a pronounced roasty, coffee-like flavor and aroma, imparted by a generous helping of roasted barley. Hop bitterness enhances the dryness, and the medium body makes for a very drinkable dark beer. This is one of the most popular styles among home brewers; after a few pints, you'll understand why.

Not that impressed

This unfortunately tasted like a lot of other recipes I’ve tried from NB. It tasted like plain old “beer” and was nowhere near as dark as I expected. It definitely did not taste like an Irish stout. It was only as dark as an amber at most and tasted like yuengling if I had to compare it to a more popular brew. It was fine but I was just disappointed in the end product.

1 gallon Dry Irish Stout

Clear instructions and wonderful final product! Definite flavors of roasted barley and other grains. For others to know, this stout is low carbonated if using the Northern Brewer carbonation drops.

Bourbon Barrel Porter

A delight to brew! The oak chips and bourbon imparted an awesome taste and rich flavor. Just the best! Now to try and age it a bit instead of drinking Dr up!!
Always perfect kits and ingredients. Thank you!!

Excellent!

I've made this stout several times over the past six years and it's always a winner! I prefer to age it for about 9 months or so because then the flavor gets really good. However, it's still perfectly drinkable after only just a few weeks in the bottle. If you like complex dark beers, you can't go wrong with this one!
