Product Details
Arguably Ireland's most famous export, dry stout has a loyal following all over the world. Our stout kit has a pronounced roasty, coffee-like flavor and aroma, imparted by a generous helping of roasted barley. Hop bitterness enhances the dryness, and the medium body makes for a very drinkable dark beer. This is one of the most popular styles among home brewers; after a few pints, you'll understand why.

Good light alcohol beer
This is a relatively low alcohol stout but definitely has the dry flavor and from the literature outside of Northernbrewer, the flavor pretty much matches. Good beer.

Was asked to put this one in a contest!
My LHBS proprietor, who is a BJCS judge, told me to brew this recipe again and enter it in a beer contest. He said it was an outstanding stout, and had a hint of vanilla on top of the expected roasty flavor.

I heartily recommend this recipe!

More of a porter than a stout
Tasty porter but not much of a dry stout.

Tastes great but...
The boil time seemed too long. I was left with half a gallon from 1.25 I started with. Had to add a lot of water at the end to bring it back up to a gallon.

No OG/FG in instructions
I bought this kit for a family member to brew for the first time. When it came time to brew, we found that the recipe did not list any original gravity or final gravity, so we have no idea if our wort came out as it should have, nor when the fermentation is actually complete. It's turned a first brew into a guessing game, and at this point we can only hope the finished product comes out OK.

Whats the ABV on this stout?
A shopper on Mar 20, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Thanks for contacting Northern Brewer. The original gravity of this beer is 1.042, but we purposely do not put the final gravity of the beer on the website because sometimes people get so frustrated they didn't hit a specific number that they forget to enjoy the beer they brewed. You can however figure out the final gravity dependent on the attenuation rates of the yeast you are using will give you a range.
Cheers!
The "Additional Information" should say "4 weeks", not "6 weeks"... um... right?
