How Does The Insulated Jacket Work?

The Insulated Jacket works great up to a 30 degrees F drop below room temperature!

It is easy to control the desired temperature by using frozen 2-liter bottles as follows:

  • One frozen 1-liter bottle will result in a 2.5 degree F drop below room temperature.
  • One frozen 2-liter bottle will result in a 5 degree F drop over below temperature.
  • Two frozen 2-liter bottles will result in a 10 degree F drop below room temperature.
  • Three frozen 2-liter bottles will result in a 15 degree F drop below room temperature. This method is scalable all the way up to around a 30 degree F drop below room temperature! A frozen 2-liter bottle typically does not thaw completely in 24 hours so it is easy to maintain a constant temperature drop.

Does not work with brew jacket
This jacket is better than nothing, but not by a lot. It does not work at all with the brewjacket immersion cooler. The insulated jacket barely gets below ambient temps. Rotating ice bottles in and out do not give temp drops as advertised.

Great
To day i order my second insulated jacket. Got the first from fast brewing when they had them on pre sale. should have gotten two then. Found out Northern Brewer had they them at close to the sale price. Love the jacket. I live in El Paso Texas, it get's hot here in the summer.. Doing the fermenting in my garage, Had out side temperature of 85 deg. and the garage was in the 75 to 80's. I use frozen one gallon bottles. The temperature stayed between 60 and 70 deg. Just right for my ale's.It is easy to use. The hold system the fast ferment and the jacket is great.

Works Well
Basement keep beer at around 60 degrees in winter/fall/spring months and needing heat for my saison has been difficult using a heating pad alone. This keep my saison with a regulator at 85 degrees with 0 problems. I will get another when i get a second fast fermenter. I cant wait to try lagering with this.

does the job
While it did the job of helping me keep my carboy cooler, it isn't good quality. It arrived with already one cut, and I just discovered a rip by one of the zippers. Only used it for one round of brewing so far.

Would this work for a regular fermenter in the floor like a big moth bubbler. It seems big enough and tall to work?? Anybody try it
Ken F on Jun 11, 2016
BEST ANSWER: A regular fermenter would certainly fit inside but you wouldn't be able to hang the ice bottles from a frame like using it with a wall mounted FastFerment.
What should I do if my Fast Fermenter has the old style wall mounts?
Russell L on Apr 2, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Hi Russell, I believe we'll be contacting FastFerment and getting sets of the improved brackets for customers who are going to use the insulated jacket on their fermenter. We will know more about this soon, this is a very new item, and the bracket issue is a new one for us to now deal with! It can be used with the stand if you have that, or else you'd want to wait for news on the larger brackets. We will know more soon about how to help out with this issue. Have a good day! -Mike W, Northern Brewer
