Works as advertised.
Don't put it in the dishwasher though. My first one cracked like crazy.

Works better than the wifes flower vase
My first one came broken and I contacted Northern to see what kind of glue that I could use to repair it and they sent me a new one and a nice note saying sorry for the troubles. I am impressed with this company and there ethics, I wanted to just glue it but they replaced it and went above and beyond. Good jar from an awesome company...

Nice to have plastic and not glass...less chance of breaking it.
That is all.

Hydrometer test jar
My old one had a crack and was getting cloudy after several years of use, so I made a big splurge :-) and ordered a new one. It's nice and clear and uncracked. I've used it once and it works fine.

What's the temperature rating on this jar?
D U on Mar 24, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I don't know of a temperature rating. It's fairly cheap plastic. I suspect that water near the boiling point would damage it, either turning it cloudy, warping it, or cracking it. If I wanted to measure gravity of boiling wort, I would cool it maybe in a small saucepan, before putting it in this jar or putting a hydrometer in it. Hydrometer readings at high temperatures aren't very accurate anyway.
