New Kegs

Each keg contains two ball-lock posts which maintain keg pressure even after you detach the disconnect. The oval lid has a built-in pressure relief valve and a quick-lock mechanism to seal and lock the keg. The pressure relief valve automatically vents if the tank pressure rises above 130 PSI. The relief valve has a large ring for manual operation, which allows you to purge kegs of oxygen after filling, or to relieve keg pressure if your beer becomes over carbonated. These kegs feature a single stainless steel carrying strap. The rubber base prevents tank damage while reducing wear and tear on refrigerator floors. The stainless steel sidewalls are easy to clean, and built to withstand years of rugged usage.

Used Kegs

Our used five gallon ball lock kegs have all the features and advantages of new ones at about a third of the cost. The quality of the used kegs is somewhat variable, but every used keg you puchase from us is guaranteed to be pressure capable. We do not sell used kegs that have pin lock fittings or lids with no pressure relief valves. We pressurize kegs when we receive them, and make sure they are still holding pressure when we ship them to you.

As these kegs have previously been used for soft drinks, it will be necessary to thoroughly clean the kegs and replace the seals before use. (Our #KX15 Used Keg Seal Kit has all the seals you will need.) Most kegs won't require any other service, but if they do, the most common points of failure are poppet valves, keg posts, and pressure relief valves.

Please note, these are not new kegs, and there will be scuffs and dents that will not affect the keg's performance. Some kegs will require additional work or replacement parts to put them into service, however many will be good to go. We do not offer any guarantees or warrantees on the kegs, with one exception: we do guarantee that the kegs are capable of holding pressure. For example, we have seen used kegs with small punctures in the wall of the keg itself, or with a manhole opening that has large dents and can't be sealed. We sort out these kegs and scrap them.

We allocate kegs from our warehouse in a "first in first out" manner. Our warehouse and our retail store are separate, so you will not be purchasing kegs that have been sorted and rejected by retail customers. We purchase kegs from many different sources at different times and there is a bit of variability in the cosmetic appearance and quality. If you don't want the hassle of working a bit with the used kegs, we highly recommend purchasing a new keg.

Disconnects

Northern Brewer carries female disconnects in every possible configuration. Barbed disconnects have a 1/4" barb and connect to our beverage tubing (K025) with a stainless hose clamp (K124). The 1/4" MFL threaded fittings connect to our tubing kits (KX03-KX07), our barbed swivel nut (K123) and our counterpressure bottle filler (K055).

CO2 Charger

This handy keg charger uses disposable 12-gram CO2 cartriges to keep Cornelius kegs pressurized so you can transport your kegged homebrew without bringing along your heavy CO2 tank and fragile regulator. Attaches to the gas side of soda kegs; requires a 1/4" MFL ball-lock (#K010) or pin-lock (#K036) gas disconnect, not included. Please note that the keg charger includes one 16 gram CO2 cartridge; however it will also take 12-gram CO2 cartiges (#K097).
