Mike Weiss

Where are you from?

I was born in St. Louis Park, MN.

What is your favorite brewing topic to talk to customers about?

Probably kegging beer, and dealing with the issues surrounding that.

What was your biggest brewing blunder?

Not too long ago, I lost a WHOLE keg of a really great Calypso IPA, due to a fitting that was leaking in my keezer.  Totally my fault, I should have checked the connections after getting all the kegs back in place in the keezer.  Noticed a few days later, when I opened it up, and it was 4+ inches deep in really great beer.

What movie have you watched the most times?

I’d guess “Monty Python and the Holy Grail”, or Monty Python’s “Life of Brian”

What was your proudest moment in your fermentation history?

I’m not sure it’s happened yet!  But I have enjoyed bringing a keg of beer to a party, and having it be very well received by folks who like good beer.

Why do you brew?

It’s fun, it saves money ( theoretically) and I like to make things, so it combines several things I enjoy.

When did you start brewing?

I started brewing in 2006.

What is your brewing system?

I use a stovetop set-up for BIAB brewing; or when it’s warm enough I have a larger 3-tier set-up I built to do large batches outdoors.

What is your favorite style of beer for drinking and for brewing?

I prefer Pale Ales and IPA’s, I also like American Wheat beers and other witbiers as well.

If you could share a beer with anyone throughout history, of even fictional, who would it be?

Perhaps author Douglas Adams, or guitarist Jerry Garcia…

Where do you spend your non-brewing time?

At home with my wife and daughter, or out seeing good music with friends

Who are your three favorite musicians/bands?

The New Orleans Radiators, Bob Dylan, The Grateful Dead ( hon. mention to Gillian Welch/David Rawlings! )
