Lives up to PPG claim
I had a bad experience with another extract so I was anxious to get started using this one . What a world of difference, I was planning my recipe based on a 1.036 boil gravity and this extract delivered almost spot on (1.037) . Couldn't be happier and I'm waiting to taste the end results, I'm sure from the other reviews I've got nothing to worry about. Just so you know, I did three pounds to make three gallons of wort, chilled three samples to an appropriate temperature and took the average of the readings VERY EASY AND HARD TO DO WRONG. If you can put a hydrometer into a tube and you can take the temperature of the liquid then you may as well take a sample reading to ensure your hops utilization is correct!

taste test
I made twin batches of Papazian's American Real Ale. This extract vs. Breis Amber. My crowd chose the Northern Brewer batch unanimously saying mostly that is was "more complex". It's a lot cheaper too in the 6 pound form.

Quality stuff
Northern Brewer describes how their extract is made frequently and therefore very fresh when you receive it, and I absolutely believe them. The quality of their extracts is consistently high. This is a good value considering it's an easy way to add density to your wort.

Solid performer
I used this in Scottish Wee Heavy as a replacement for an amber malt that was discontinued by another supplier. Tough to tell for sure, since the previous brew is all gone, but I do think the new batches are slightly better. Love that Scottish Ale.

Amazing in Pecan Pie!
We add this one to our chocolate pecan pie and our customers LOVE it! The staff is knowledgable and friendly too! They did a great job helping me to determine what malt syrup would give us some depth of flavor w/o taking over. Thanks!

I like this extract and use it a lot. I'm thinking of buying a six pack. For how long could I store this before use?

BEST ANSWER: LME like this is best used fresh, but it can be stored in a refrigerator and kept for a year or so without significant degradation. - Mike W, Northern Brewer
