Product Details

Maris Otter is an "heirloom" barley variety grown entirely on the British Isles. It is a stubborn paragon of character and flavor, trumping commercial desires for high yield and disease resistance. Though replacement barley varieties have come after, it remains the most prized British malt for an astounding depth of flavor and aroma.

Much like that heirloom malt, we have insisted upon a classic formula - 100% Maris Otter, with no added caramel malts or simple sugars, no corners cut in the name of cost. The result is a malt extract worthy of the best brewers. It is an extract of unmatched complexity, sure to bring you the "wow"s you deserve.

1.036 ppg gravity contribution, 4-5 SRM, excellent fermentability, and authentic English character - grainy, bready, and slightly nutty. Just harness this built-in malt profile to your favorite English hops and yeast (we love this syrup combined with Wyeast 1945 NeoBritannia) for a faithful “real ale” quality never before accessible to extract brewers.

Can't tell the difference...
...between this extract and mashing my own Crisp MO. I mostly brew all grain, but once a year I do a big English Barley Wine. This year I doubled the batch size, larger then my MT could hold so I used this to make up the difference. I did a side by side of my wort from the mash and this extract at the same SG. my two brewing partners and I could not tell the difference in a triangle test.

Flawless
As an all-grain brewer for 20 years, I forgot how easy it is to use extract. I converted one of my recipes that use Maris Otter over to this extract and the results were great. Same fresh biscuit British flavor you expect from this base malt. I would be hard-pressed to tell my all-grain version from the one made with this extract.

Love this stuff!
I always hit my gravity targets or better with Maris otter syrup. Northern Brewer is always fresh. I can't taste the difference between using this or going all grain! Since they have offered this product, I have been making some exceptional brews. Cheers!

Great LME
I used this LME to brew an English inspired java stout and it came out fantastic! It's almost impossible to find LME Maris Otter and Northern Brewer's is fantastic. Great biscuit flavor and certainly dark enough to give off a rich flavor. It worked well with fuggles and dark English steeping grains.

Great new product
This extract is awesome, and gave my IPA a great depth of malt flavor that I usually on get with all grain brewing. I would definitely recommend this if you're brewing extract for any british ales or really any beer you're wanting a deeper base malt flavor in.

Is there any difference between your malt extract syrup and the tins of malt extract
A L on Jan 6, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The liquid malt syrup in jugs is going to have a greater variety than the syrup in cans and will also have better freshness.
