If you're an All-Grain brewer, water pH is crucial for your brew. Having the correct pH in your mash and sparge water helps reduce the chance of off-flavors, improves conversion, and ensures optimal yeast health in the fermentation. But paper test strips can be maddening.

This is the same pH meter as the pH56 model, but with a lower resolution (0.1 pH) and a more affordable price tag. Range of -2 to 16 pH and 32° to 122°F. 0.1°F resolution and +/- 0.1 pH and 1°F accuracy. Automatic single- or double-point calibration and automatic temperature correction from 32° to 122°F. Further bells and whistles are a large digital display, auto power-off, repleacable electrode, and a hold feature that allows you to remove the probe from the solution to more easily read the display. Included 1.5V batteries provide approx. 300 hours of use (automatic calibration uses more power than manual calibration).

Also includes one set of calibration solution sachets. Frequent calibration will ensure you always have the most accurate read on your water.

Please note that electrodes must be rinsed after use and stored in electrode storage solution to ensure proper function of the meter.

Milwaukee pH55
It works good as expected for the price. You must soak it before use and store it in storage solution between uses so make sure you also order storage solution when purchasing this meter. I also store my meter inside the included cap with storage solution to prevent evaporation like others have suggested. The cap is slightly rounded for some reason so you will need something like a coffee cup to hold it upright while storing it between use.

So can this be used in the actual mash, and still give you an accurate Ph reading? New to all this water chemistry stuff...

BEST ANSWER: Well it is best to be used on cooled down samples of the mash versus actually sticking it into the mash. I have actually done both, but you will need to do a temperature correction if you place it directly into the mash. It is truly meant to be used on wort that is as close to room temperature as possible, or a cooler temperature than a mash. Normally I will draw off some of the wort or just use a small bowl and scoop out some of the wort and cool it down to test. I will usually wait around 10-15 minutes after doughing in and give a good stir before I pull off my wort, cool, and test.

Also, just to state the obvious, the probe and tip is maybe an inch or so long, so you cannot submerge the whole unit.

Happy brewing
