The most wonderfully lazy way to make great beer!
I have been brewing for over 2 decades and while I still have my self-built 20G HERMS system I am absolutely LOVING my Pico. I can make a 5L mini-keg (or Two) on a weeknight with ease. With the demands on my time these days the Pico is the perfect solution to fill in the gaps so I don't have to buy commercial beer unless I want to. The beer is every bit as good as I can make on my other system.

Great for Small Spaces
The PicoBrew S is a great little machine that mechanizes and standardizes the brewing process. It is easy to use and you can easily make two 1.25 gallon batches in a day, maybe three if you are efficient in cleanup and sanitization. After brewing, the fermentation, racking and carbonation steps are essentially the same as for standard beer making. The only thing that is kind of taken out of your hands are the boil and hopping.

Pros: Easy to use. Consistent, Growing library of PicoPaks for purchase. A great way to get into homebrewing even if you live in a small apartment. The PicoBrew contains an air pump that simplifies the transfer of wort and the raking process. There is a beta program for the customization of PicoPaks from scratch, provided that you want to use the grains, malt and hops that they supply on their website (they do supply most standard materials). Easy-to-follow videos on their website. Nowhere near as messy as traditional homebrewing.

Cons: The nature of the PicoPak limits experimentation with the majority of the variables on the brew process. This tends to turn some people off. You're locked into PicoBrew for supply of the PicoPaks. Difficult to go larger than 1.25 gallons unless you sequentially brew the same recipe in 1.25 gal batches.

Overall, the PicoBrew is a good intro into homebrewing and lets you do it in a standard kitchen. without driving family members crazy with the mess.

Undecided yet
Review ("required") , really? And it is "required" that my review be a minimum of 50 characters long.......hmmm. Well, first things first. While I understand that it certainly could benefit your business in the event some customers would leave positive reviews for other potential customers to read, and that I usually like to read previous reviews of a product, good and bad, NONE of that is "required". Period. Ever. I am not an employee nor am I being compensated for my time to further your business model.
The Pico unit I ordered arrived in seemingly perfect condition with all items packaged very well. So far it has performed very well.
I did have some minor issues registering the unit as the machine generated code included a 0, which looked much like an O. After that registration went smoothly.
Also, while reading the manual provided with the unit and going through the steps as directed, I noted some discrepancies between the written directions and machine provided prompts. I looked to the Pico web site and found some seemingly well made and clearly laid out video sections which go over the written direction provided with the unit. I also noted some discrepancies between the video versus written versus machine prompted directions.
After deciding which version made the most sense things seemed to progress smoothly for brewing my first batch. I had some questions along the way and found answers to all my questions among the written and video directions provided.
The unit seems well designed, arrived in perfect condition, and seems to have functioned perfectly so far.
My first batch was the half squeezed IPA. It is more bitter than I would like but I can't say there seems anything wrong with it. As in, it doesn't seem to have gone "bad", but I have nothing to compare it with. If I can find a half squeezed IPA in the store so I can make a meaningful comparison I would feel better in providing a fair review of my results so far.
I plan to clean the unit and various parts thoroughly and then brew the Pico Pale. I am hoping it is a brew more to my tastes. Perhaps I will re-visit my review when that batch is ready to drink.
I like the batch size. I like the clarity of the directions and relative simplicity of using the machine. I like that it is manageable in an average kitchen without taking over the place. I think it has a lot of potential.
However, to be fair, I do not feel I can say "yeah or nae" having brewed just one batch and with nothing to compare that to. I will look to see if I can buy a six pack of something I can brew with the Pico so that I have a benchmark of what i am looking to achieve in the finished product.

Grain to glass in one week? How is this accomplished
A shopper on May 31, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Calling it a marketing ploy is an oversimplification. You can do it in one week if you use the "fast fermentation" process, i.e., fermenting at a somewhat elevated temperature such as 75F. A number of people who blog on their website do that and claim good results. Personally, I prefer a much cooler fermentation. In such a case, it takes pretty much a normal beermaking time of two weeks or more.
Where does the water for brewing come from? Does the unit have to be plumbed into a water source?
A shopper on May 21, 2017
BEST ANSWER: The current machine, the PicoBrew S, has a reservoir on top of the machine. You put about a gallon of water in there for the mash and the hopping. I use distilled water from the grocery store.
Which version of the PicoBrew is this system? Pico Pro, Pico C (Kickstarter version), or the Pico
Michael P on Jun 9, 2017
BEST ANSWER: This appears to be the PicoBrew S.
I have several 5 liter kegs left over from a previous system...is there anything special about your kegs or would mine be usable with this?
A shopper on Jun 9, 2017
BEST ANSWER: PicoBrew uses standard ball lock kegs for brewing and fermentation. Racking and carbonation can optionally be to a standard ball lock keg or to one of the cheaper mini-kegs.
What is amperage draw?
A shopper on Jun 9, 2017
