- Great for lagering Review by Erica

I received one of these buckets with my brewing kit and recently used in to brew a batch of Irish Red Ale. It was easy to take a sample for a specific gravity reading due to the wide open top as well as measuring the wort temperature prior to pitching the yeast.Rating
I especially like that it is much shorter than a carboy and with a three piece air lock I can get the bucket into my spare refrigerator for lagering the Octoberfest I'm going to brew and still leave the top shelf in the fridge for use with other things. These buckets are great - easy to clean, durable, and versatile. As a new brewer it would be helpful for me to be able to physically see what's going on inside the fermenter. These buckets won't let you do that. Also getting the lid on and off can be a bit of a pain. But this is also what keeps the bucket sealed tight. I may move to carboys, but I'm still glad I have these buckets. Good purchase. (Posted on 1/18/13)Rating - Good overall Bucket Review by bruce

Good overall construction. Like the liquid volume marks on bucket. Expected a gasket in the lid. Didn't notice initial fermentation due to air lock not bubbling. cal ed Northern, said to put a little full strength sanitizing solution in lid grove. it worked. not sure of sealing and another step. I knocked a full bucket off of a table while preparing to transfer, and it fell three feet onto the floor, landing on its side. The lid stayed on, and I only lost an ounce of beer through the airlock. These buckets and lids rock. (Posted on 9/19/12)Rating - Great Ferm vessel Review by Jifigz

I orginally started fermenting in glass carboys and nothing else, but I recently added a bucket to my lineup and I couldn't be happier. If you are just beginning to brew then carboys/better bottles are pretty cool so you can see the activity of the fermentation happening, but if you don't care about that then these are the way to go. They are easier to carry (since they have a handle,) easier to clean, and much safer than handling glass. I haven't noticed any taste difference between using plastic and glass. They are also easier to transfer your wort into since you don't need a funnel. The measurement gradations on the side are also quite useful. I usually primary in the bucket and then transfer to a glass carboy for longer aging. (Posted on 7/12/12)Rating - Another great Northern Brewer product!!! Review by Chris

This is a great piece of brewing equipment. I would definitely buy it again! The measurements on the side are a great addition and they are impossible to break! (Posted on 6/7/12)Rating - WORKS GREAT Review by cash4020

Started with Carboys and didn't want to buy more so I opted for this... Works great. (Posted on 5/31/12)Rating - Love them Review by sol

I started out as a strictly carboy fermenter. But after learning to skip secondary and getting past being able to see your beer ferment, these are the ticket. You cant break them and they are so much easier to clean than a carboy. Also more head space for less chance of a blow off. (Posted on 1/10/12)Rating - Very useful information all around the bucket. These fermenters work just as well as my Ale Pails. I like the way these buckets are marked for liquid volume as compaired to them. You cant beat all the little handy info thats listed around the fermenter either! Northern Brewer FTW!! (Posted on 8/29/11)Rating
