Product Details

Folks tend to become very passionate about homebrewing after a batch or two, but we’ve also seen a lot of new brewers fall in love even before embarking upon their first fermentation. For those of you who are already passionate about hand-crafted beer, like we are, here’s the Deluxe Brewing Starter Kit.

Contains:

  • 6 Gallon Glass Primary Fermentor, Fermometer, Bung, Airlock, Blowoff Assembly
  • 5 Gallon Glass Secondary Fermentor, Fermometer, Bung, Airlock
  • 6.5 Gallon Bottling Bucket, Bottling Spigot, Bottle Filler, Bottling Tubing
  • Auto-Siphon, Siphon Tubing
  • Beer Bottle Brush
  • Bottle Capper, 60 Caps
  • Instructional Getting Started in Homebrewing DVD
  • One Step Cleaner/Sanitizer
  • Carboy Brush

Our Deluxe kit features a pair of large glass bottles called carboys as vessels in a two-stage fermentation process. The additional equipment and extra steps taken with the Deluxe Starter Kit reward the brewer with clearer, clean-tasting beer, as well as the ability to brew a wider range of styles as your confidence grows and sudsy repertoire expands!

And when you brew with Northern Brewer you never brew alone—you’ll also get a copy of our FREE Getting Started In Homebrewing DVD, plus a laminated step-by-step instruction sheet for brew day.

HERE’S THE FUN PART! Every starter kit comes complete with your choice of recipe kits. Just pick one of the three classic Northern Brewer recipes below and you’ll have all the ingredients you need to take your new gear out for a test drive.

Caribou Slobber Brown Ale Like your brews tall, dark and drinkable? Then try Caribou Slobber Brown Ale. Perfect for fans of substantial craft beer, this ale is full-bodied, smooth, and deliciously dark without a hint of bitterness. Guaranteed to become your new favorite session beer.

Irish Red Ale If you’re looking for a perfectly balanced, crowd pleasing pint, you can’t go wrong with our Irish Red Ale. There’s a reason this kit is our best seller. Actually, three reasons: great, medium-bodied taste, rich coppery color and enticingly low aging requirements.

American Wheat Beer Or keep it clean and crisp with our American Wheat—a spritzy and refreshing warm-weather brew, light in color and body, with a subtle but heady dose of West Coast hoppiness. Deliciously drinkable.

Required but not included: a 4 to 5 gallon kettle and roughly 50 empty 12oz beer bottles that accept pry-off caps. See our Raise Your Game Fresh Start Upgrade Kit.

Note: Testing the specific gravity of your batch with a hydrometer is the best way to keep tabs on fermentation and for us to help troubleshoot by phone or email. We highly recommend adding our Mad Brewer Upgrade Kit or Brewery Essentials Gravity Testing Kit.

Does this kit have everything I need to brew an all grain recipe?
A shopper on Jun 30, 2015
Best Answer: No, this is the basic set up to brew an extract batch of beer. We recommend starting with extract and learning to walk before running, and then this equipment will work well for all of your future upgrades. See all grain starter kits for the recommend equipment for all grain brewing.

Looking at a starter kit and I am a beginning brewer. Which would you suggest, this kit with the big mouth bubblers or the deluxe brewing starter kit with carboys? Is there any difference in fermenting between these two primary fermenters?

Deluxe Starter Kit featuring Big Mouth Bubbler®
Best Answer: The glass fermentors are heavy and breakable, but more traditional and if handled appropriately should last forever. The plastic big mouth bubblers are lighter and unbreakable but can be scratched and may need replacing after a few years. Since they have a wide opening, you can get your whole arm inside with a soft cloth so scratching is avoidable in this design, making plastic an attractive option. I recommend the big mouth bubbler design.

Can I substitute a different beer kit?
A shopper on Nov 6, 2014
Best Answer: In short, no. All of our starter kits come with three recipe options—Irish Red Ale, American Wheat and Caribou Slobber Brown Ale. We've hand-picked these recipes for a couple of reasons. First, they're really easy to make and hard to screw up. Second, they're customer favorites, all time bestsellers with a massive number of 5-star reviews. And last but not least, they're fun to brew and receive wide approval from friends and family so you'll definitely impress with your first batch of home-made beer.

Does this starter kit come with bottles and/or a kettle?
A shopper on Nov 6, 2014
Best Answer: It does not. You can reuse empty beer bottles instead of tossing them in the recycling, just make sure they're sanitized before you fill them with beer. Also, test the capper on any of the shorter bottles, Summit and Sierra Nevada style bottles are notorious for being incompatible with standard bottle cappers.

As for a kettle, if you have a chili pot lying around, that should be more than big enough to make five gallons of beer, as you only need to boil 2.5-3 gallons.

If you'd rather purchase new, we recommend the Fresh Start Upgrade Kit.

What other equipment is needed with this kit?
A shopper on Nov 6, 2014
Best Answer: First off, you'll need a kettle capable of holding 2.5 gallons of water. It's best to have a little head space, so slightly larger than 2.5 gallons is ideal. You might already have a chili pot that can hold this much water. If you're bottling your beer, you'll need 48 12-oz. beer bottles for a 5 gallon batch. Alternatively, you can choose to keg your beer—for this we recommend one of the all-in-one Draft Brewer keg systems.

Best Answer: This starter kit is built around our world-class extract recipes, with each batch designed to produce 5 gallons of beer. The included recipe kit will make 5 gallons of beer, or 48 12-oz bottles.
