Details

What we really like about this oatmeal cream stout is the smoothness that brewing with lactose sugar brings to the palate. This smoothness balances out the copious quantities of roasted barley used in the brewing process to create a rich, complex, and delicious beer. If you have not been a stout drinker in the past, give this beer a try - it might just change your mind about how dark beers should taste. It tastes so rich, but is surprisingly easy to drink!

Since 2007, Tallgrass Brewing Co. has been crafting award-winning ales at the edge of the Flint Hills in Manhattan, Kansas. In addition to the quality of their beer, they’re known for their packaging, sense of humor, and an adventurous, experimental spirit that’s true to their homebrewing roots. Tallgrass chose Northern Brewer to help bring their recipes to homebrewers everywhere through our Pro Series line of beer kits - cheers!

A note on yeast: Tallgrass uses White Labs WLP007 Dry English Ale; with Tallgrass' blessing, we suggest Wyeast 1098 as the default option so customers (especially mail order customers) can more easily evaluate viability before brewing.

Very good Review by Brad

Very good beer. I was excited to make this because i knew a few ppl who talked about how good the commercial stuff was. It turned out GREAT! I can't wait to share this one with some friends next weekend.

Used the Wyeast for this one. After making the starter I was a little worried because the yeast smelled very strong. However, it turned out great and the yeast definitely adds some flavor. (Posted on 3/10/14)
A party favorite Review by Craig

Recently ordered another pair of kits and now have 10 gallons in the fermenter. This was a big hit at the wedding party, consumed second only to my house brown ale. I'm thinking about putting 5 gallons of this batch on vanilla beans in secondary to emulate the Tallgrass winter seasonal version Vanilla Bean Buffalo Sweat. If you like sweet stout, you need to try this beer. (Posted on 12/12/13)
Tastes just like the original Review by Andrew Morrow

Brewed the all grain version on 9/28/13 OG: 1.059. Check gravity on 10/8/13 and hit 1.020. Of course I tasted the sample and was pleased with the results. Lots of malty sweetness, can't wait to keg and carb this one up for the final results. (Posted on 10/9/13)
Great home version of a great beer Review by Craig

Tallgrass brewery is just down the road from where I live, so I've become a big fan of their products, their people, and how they do business. Buffalo Sweat is a great beer for people who aren't big craft beer fans, so it perfectly fits the bill for my upcoming wedding party. Sweet, hints of chocolate, and easy to drink. And the NB version comes out very close to the brewery version. (Posted on 7/26/13)
