Meh... Review by Brandon

OK in all fairness, this isnt a flaw from Northern Brewer...I was just waaaay overwhelmed with the bacon twang from the bacon flavor. Like bacon bits on roids. I had about 10 people try it and it was all the same response. Again..as advertised, just not what I hoped for. (Posted on 6/10/14)
Great Kit!!!! Review by Tanker

This is a great kit...........Just bottled today and the tasting is almost like drinking bacon if you let it breath a little first. After it ages and conditions some it ought to be just right...........I,m definitely going to re-order this one (Posted on 6/8/14)
Great beer and I added chipotle peppers Review by Troy

This is a great beer for any party. After I fermented the Bacon Smoked Red Ale I split the batch. 3 gallons went in to one carboy. The last 2 gallons went to another carboy, but I add 2 chipotle peppers. both turn out awesome. I will brew this beer again. (Posted on 5/3/14)

Tasted my first bottle today. Dark brown color, nice head with good lacing. Deep smoke flavor, may be a bit over powering for some, but I liked it. My wife, who isn't a beer drinker at all, liked the taste of this. I really didn't taste any bacon flavor, unless the smoky flavor is in fact bacon. This beer would be great along side a smoked brisket or a smoked pork butt. I plan to use it in some baked beans, think it will add great flavor. This beer has been in the bottle for 4 weeks. I would make this again. I am going on a fishing trip next week and will get a critique from my fishing buddies. (Posted on 4/4/14)

This is by far the best brew that I have made from Northern Brewer's collection. I was very apprehensive to buy and brew this batch, but it did not disappoint. The aroma is a little strong when bottling, but I helped mellow it out by racking into a secondary fermenter after two weeks in primary and adding about 16 oz of pure maple syrup. It is has been in my keg for about 3 weeks and I have gotten nothing by rave reviews from other home brewers and friends about how great this beer turned out. The smoky taste has mellowed out very well, and the bacon is more of an aftertaste on the palate.

Overall, this beer turned out absolutely great, much better than I expected it to. If you like bacon and beer, this fusion of the two greatest things on earth is for you! (Posted on 3/30/14)
Very happy I tried it out Review by Adam

After having Rogue Voodoo Bacon Maple Ale I was interested in the flavor profile so when I saw this I had to try it. Very happy I did. I liked it much better then the Voodoo. It made for a great beer and breakfast drink St. Patty's weekend. It was a nice aroma and smokey flavor on bottling day. I tried a bottle after a couple weeks and then again at a month. Wait the month. (Posted on 3/17/14)
Wasn't too sure about this one! Review by Bill

I had reservations on brew day as the very strong overpowering aromas seemed over the top. On bottling day the smell still was not as pleasing as many of my other beers, but was much more subdued. The taste test on bottling day had me pleasantly surprised and there was a distinct smokey bacon flavor. I will give the bottles a good 2-3 weeks and report back, but so far it is quite interesting. If you like a subtly smoky flavored beer you have to try this one. Without a doubt this is the best I've brewed yet. I waited a month after bottling and the flavor is great. The reviewers that mention the strong smell at brewing are correct - but don't let that scare you away. I'm ordering another. (Posted on 3/9/14)
If you love Bacon Review by Jared

I bottled this last weekend and those of us present passed around a glass of the beer before bottle conditioning. The smell seemed more like that of chocolate ice cream. The bacon taste is definitely present without being overbearing. Just a few steps above a hint of flavor. It's a fun novelty beer to keep around to impress your guests. (Posted on 2/25/14)

Brewed this beer about 6 weeks ago. On brew day I was concerned that this beer would not be any good, it had an intense smell to it that wasn't great. When bottling the smell was still strong but not as strong.

After a week I tried a bottle. The bacon flavor was definitely there and it was too strong for my liking. The smell was also too intense and so my initial thought well it is bacon beer what more should I expect.

One week later I tried another and the smell was just right. The bacon flavor is way more subtle than before. The beer has a very woody/smokey flavor that I'm not a fan of, but I'm not a big fan of smokey beers to begin with. Overall from what I have gathered from my many of friends is that the beer is good. It has surprised many of my friends and while I'm not the biggest fan of the smokey flavor most of my friends have enjoyed it. (Posted on 2/24/14)

OK in all fairness my first review was after only one week in the bottle and it has now been the two weeks suggested. The bacon flavor is still plenty strong, but it has become much more tasty. Had a glass tonight with dinner and really enjoyed it and I still can't wait to make some beer cheese soup with it!! So I moved it from a 3 star to a 4 star. (Posted on 2/22/14)

I wasn't quite sure what to expect but just the sound of it had my interest so I had to order it. Waited 2 1/2 weeks after bottling and was pleasantly surprised. The first sip seemed a little strong but it was also something that I wasn't used to tasting. It did mellowed out by the end of the glass. Everyone I gave this to (except the busch light drinker!) really like the flavor. I do suspect it will even be better with a little more age. Definitely will brew again for a special occasion. More smokey and bacony than I expected, but that is not a bad thing. I kinda made it as a joke because I like bacon and I like beer, but this is really excellent. (Posted on 2/21/14)
Stronger than Expected Review by William

I thought the bacon flavor would be a bit more subtle, kind of knocks your nose off. Although it is young, only one week in the bottle, taste testers at our brew club seemed to all agree with my opinion. Really hoping it calms down a bit with time in the bottle. That being said I can't wait to make some Beer Cheese soup and dips using this ale! (Posted on 2/17/14)

After 2 weeks, it's bottling day. A sample revealed a really nice smokey bacon aroma and taste. I know I'll be sampling bottles after one week. (Posted on 2/2/14)
