The deck is stacked with a whole lotta hops. Four of a kind, in fact – Magnum, Chinook, Centennial and Citra. And get ready for the bluff, because this session brew drinks lighter than it appears. You won’t find roasted coffee or bittersweet chocolate here, just smooth malty caramel with a touch of toast, and an intense hop presence with pine, citrus and fruity notes that stand no chance of getting lost in the shuffle. Play your cards right? There’s no way to play them wrong with this kit. Any way you brew it, you’ll be coming up aces.

Heaven has this on tap Review by George

I've been brewing casually (4-6 batches per year, not counting mead output) for 20 years - all grain (mostly kits) for 15. This is the best beer I ever made, and quite possibly the best I ever drank. Everybody who tastes it agrees, even people who say they don't like dark beers. (What's the matter with them, anyway?) I made the mistake of putting the last batch I made out for a small party, and it was completely gone in a single night. (Really in a single hour.) Don't wait - brew this one. (Posted on 7/20/14)
This one won't last long Review by Kyle

Brew summary: Primary fermentation for 2 weeks, secondary for 2 weeks, bottle condition for 2 weeks. I used dry yeast but re-hydrated the yeast with sterile water before pitching.

This beer is fantastic. It's definitely on the IPA side - hoppy and a somewhat strong beer. The balance is amazing - maybe to the point of being dangerous. I can see going through several of these quickly. The malt and hops are very complementary of each other.

This is another one that just got put on my rotation. I may never buy beer again. NB's kits are consistently excellent. (Posted on 6/25/14)
Excellent Beer, Will Brew Again Review by Drew

While I do love IPAs, this brew surpasses the usual hop-forward character of an IPA and adds a nice malt backbone to support the outstanding aroma of the extended hop schedule.
It's a beer that not only do I love to drink, but other people really get hooked on too! (Posted on 6/23/14)

I just put a Peace Coffee 2nd Crack Stout on flameout added the coffee grains and cracked open My first Ace of Spades from my last batch as I am hot and sweaty now and deserve to relax. This beer has a great IPA flavor and is very refreshing to drink not heavy at all at $39.99 this kit is a bargain and will be finding its way to my front door many more times in the future I am not even sure I will share this beer with others as I am totally amazed with how awesome this beer is and want every last drop for myself (ok the wife can earn some) especially with these hot summer days a refreshing full flavored beer what more could you ask for truly a gift from the beer gods - thanks Northern Brewer (Posted on 6/8/14)
Will definitely brew again. Review by Dave

If you're on the fence about this one, don't be. Get it, brew it, love it. I had never had a black IPA before I brewed this and now it's the standard to which all other BIPAs will be compared. A perfect balance of hops and maltiness, or in the words of my bro-in-law..."Spot on." (Posted on 5/30/14)
Unbelievably good beer. Review by PaddyMcGurk

Honestly, I don't really care if this is a Black IPA, a Cascadian Dark Ale, India Black Ale, etc. The bottom line is that it is an absolutely delicious beer and a simple brew, to boot! Lightly toasted malt and rich caramel blended ever-so-smoothly with the rich citrus flavors of the west coast hops. Centennial and Citra are obviously an amazing dry hop combo because the combination of citrus and tropical fruit smells heavenly, especially when mixed with the hint of caramel malt as an undertone. Everyone who has had it comments on how great the nose is. Brilliantly clear, yet black as a starless night, this beer is exactly what great beer is supposed to be. Will definitely brew this again; maybe I'll try the all grain recipe next time. (Posted on 5/21/14)
Really good! Review by djam101

1 week primary, 1 week secondary. Threw on the dry hops in the keg for a week and went to take out the hop bag but it sank. So I said oh well, gonna leave it in and see how it goes. First pint precarbonated was pretty piney on the nose due to the hop sediment but taste was mellow and felt really promising. Cranked the regulator to 30psi over night, released pressure in the morning and set to serving pressure. Came home from work the next day, poured a pint. Slightly cloudy, dark and a little undercarbed but still very drinkable. Gonna let it sit for a few more days... If i can. It's only going to get better and it's damn good now just 25 days from brew date! (Posted on 5/13/14)
on the future best seller list..? Review by Dack

Being a newer kit in the catalog, it hasn't had the time to get the attention of the whole customer base yet. But dang, I would not be surprised if this turns into one of the NB best-sellers once it catches on. This is a good one. (Posted on 5/4/14)

This beer is pretty awesome, its roasty, mellow, hoppy, and easy drinking. It's the first beer ive had the privilege of kegging which may cause a slight bias opinion but friends family and myself all enjoy this beer and im eager to brew the all grain version at some point in the future. This was my third homebrewing attempt. I previously did a Chinook IPA, Irish Red Ale, and now this. It is absolutely amazing. Easily one of the best beers Ive ever drank, and I made it! Everyone that has tried it are blown away. It has a nice hop aroma up front. A nice clean finish without that hoppy aftertaste that tends to sit on your pallete with some IPA's. I will be brewing this again in the fall. This is a great addition to Northern Brewer's lineup and I'm more than happy that I took a chance on a new brew. (Posted on 3/18/14)
slowly becoming an IPA fan Review by Ethan

I'm not a huge IPA fan, but I've found that I really enjoy IPAs with heavy hop aroma and flavor but lower bitterness. When I saw the hops used for this kit, I couldn't resist.

During the boil, I did adjust the hop schedule to try to reduce the bitterness/increase aroma. I also dry-hopped for two weeks in the secondary prior to kegging. While I wouldn't mind getting the bitterness even lower, this beer tasted great right from the first pour! The citra hops really stand out in the aroma, but there is enough of a malt backbone to balance out the flavor.

After a couple weeks in the keg, I filled a bottle and took it to a local craft brewery to share with the pros...they loved it and asked me to bring more the next time I stop by. The only downside to this beer is that my keg is almost empty! (Posted on 3/11/14)
