Another Curt and Kathy creation, this melomel also uses a sweet mead for a base, but adds blackberry puree instead of raspberry during secondary fermentation. This adds tannin as well as acid into the flavor complex; combined with the deeper color of the fruit, this melomel has elements of a sweet late-harvest red wine or ruby port mixed in with the floral high notes of wildflower honey.

Wonderful Kit Mead Review by Kevin
I did this mead almost two years ago and it just keeps getting better. It was drinkable at 2 months, worth sharing with other home brewers at 6 months and by 9 months it was guest worthy and is only getting better. Easy to get the must built and in the fermenter the hardest part about this kit is the waiting! (Posted on 7/27/14)
Easy to use, very promising Review by James
This was my very first mead. Kit was easy to use, ingredients were premium. Instructions were very clear and easy.
Mead is in secondary now, and smells wonderful.

This will take a long time to mature, but so far, very highly recommended. (Posted on 8/16/13)
Easy and good Review by Bdee
First mead making experience. I think it could be a little sweeter but my girlfriend loves it so we will be making more! (Posted on 12/31/12)

Fantastic Review by Brian
Brewed this mead to serve at my wedding, but it was too good to waste on all those people. It is not terribly sweet but neither is it bone dry. I followed the instructions strictly, and after 6 months it is a great finished product that I am unwilling to share. I plan on brewing this again and trying the raspberry melomel next. not a fan Review by Rayorth
I followed the directions that came with this kit but my final product had a strong alcohol taste to it with almost no blackberry flavor. looking at the other reviews though it may get better after i let it sit for some more time. i hope (Posted on 6/13/12)
dry as a bone Review by mj
"sweet" is mentioned multiple times in the description and instructions. After starting at 1.115 it finished primary at 1.000, which is anything but...
I think it's salvageable but $84 is a lot to spend on something and not remotely get what you signed up to buy.

Great brew Review by CT
I am primarily an extract beer brewer, but I have experimented with mead. I've tried a number of different recipes that I put together, but this kit surpasses them all. I highly recommend it. It is quite sweet, and the blackberries really offset the sweetness nicely. The instructions were straightforward, and I liked that there was no acid blend or other additives. (Posted on 5/16/10)
