Made my apartment smell like hops for a few days after brewing. Citrusy and a bit woodsy. Great color and aroma. Will make this one again, maybe experiment a bit with dry hopping next time. (Posted on 4/13/14)

Well done kit. Easy and still very good. This was the 3rd extract kit I've tried and it's my best! Thanks Northern Brewer for getting me hooked on homebrew. (Posted on 3/16/14)

3 weeks + 3 weeks Review by Dan

Things turned out best the second go around. The key is to allow the Dead Ringer to bottle condition for 3 weeks. At week 2 it tastes a little green. At 3 weeks it is near perfect. This was my 5th 1 gallon batch. (Posted on 2/14/14)

Just tried my first bottle of this after 10 days and it was awesome. Fizz drops carbed it perfectly and it had a great balanced IPA flavor. I'm not a huge hophead, which is why I brewed the 1 gallon batch, but I might have to go with 5 gallons the next time for this brew. (Posted on 2/13/14)

Great Hopped-Up IPA Review by jared

I'm a hop lover and this met all my expectations. The smell is fantastic and only outdone by the taste. Nice even bitterness balanced with great citrus and floral notes. I added some extra centennial to dry hop in the secondary for that added in-your-face aroma and it turned out great. Big hit with my buddies (Posted on 12/23/13)

I brewed a small batch of this IPA for a friend because I do not typically like IPAs (I like malty beers). I have to admit, I actually like this beer! It was much better than I thought it would be. Looking forward to brewing more in the future! (Posted on 12/10/13)

This was my first solo brew ever and i absolutley love it. Clears out very nice and is a super easy brew. On a personal note/warning to first time brews watch ur temp while boiling. i ended up brewing with less than 1 gal because i boiled it too hot. It is still good but lost 1.5 beer because of my lack of attention to detail. The instructions are almost too easy to follow because i didnt even notice i had lost that much when i went to put it in the fermentor. Over all, a great beer and a great recipe. Good luck to you all A+++ (Posted on 11/15/13)

Wish I would have brewed 5 gallons Review by Daniel
Rating
I bought this 1 gallon kit to try since I don't care much for IPA's. After just 2 weeks of bottle conditioning I opened, this and my first thought was... I wish I would have made 5 gallons! This beer turned out great. I just started homebrewing this year and have made 6 or 7 beers and this was by far the best. Who knows, maybe it is because it was a 1 gallon batch and not 5 gallons of brew. Either way, if you are thinking about it, go ahead and buy it. Next time I will be buying 5 gallons instead of one as I am watching the 9 bottles disappear very quickly. (Posted on 10/23/13)

This was the second 1 gallon batch I have done. Easy to do and it made the house smell fantastic while it was cooking. That was outdone by how it tasted afterwards. Definitely one to look to do in a larger quantity! Both friends and family thought this one needs to be done again soon. (Posted on 10/14/13)

not over the top hop crazy - but just perfect. Even on brew day - the aroma - made you just want to drink the wort! As others have stated - the hardest part - the wait - but it is certainly worth it. 2 weeks primary - 2 weeks bottle conditioning - will certainly brew again - will post an additional evaluation after my nephew-in-law(!) comes over and tries it - he is IPA focused. My first brew ever made and was I ever glad I did this batch first . The balance between the malt and hops is dead on the ringer(pun intended). But seriously the aroma is snout full and the flavor is mouthful and goes down vey nice. All of 5 stars. (Posted on 9/21/13)

One of the best IPAs I've had to date!

You can't go wrong with spending 10 bucks on a one-gallon recipe, especially if you're not sure you're going to like it. Let's just say that I SHOULD have gotten the 5 gallon kit; this stuff is amazing!

Followed directions to the letter and probably let it ferment for about 3.5 weeks total before bottling. After about 10 days bottle conditioning, I put one in the fridge to cool and tried it the next day just to have a reference point in its development. It had a sharp IPA bite but absolutely no finish on it. So I let them sit in the fridge for probably 3 weeks, cracked one open and boy was I not disappointed! So smooth, crisp, great lacing, great taste and finish.

I have a couple left which have been sitting in the fridge for well over a month going on two. I have to fight myself from downing them both, so I'm keeping them for a special occasion, whatever that might be. They get better and better with age!

I will definitely have to get the 5 gallon batch, now that I've finally moved into the kegging world.

In a nutshell, if you like IPAs and this sounds like it would be an interesting brew to try, stop what you're doing and just get it. You won't be disappointed! (Posted on 7/15/13)
This Kit/Recipe is worth making the plunge to larger scale brewing Review by Thomas

This IPA turned out much better than I anticipated. Hops and Carb levels spot on! Only problem was i went through half of the batch all to easly due to the smoothness and overall drinkablity of brew. Any doubts i had about jumping into 5 Gallon batches are gone after this batch, and will be one of the first i brew large scale! too bad the starter kits dont come with this flavor as a choice! Brew Perfection Review by Haley

Was finally able to taste this anticipated IPA last weekend. It was absolutely delicious. My boyfriend and I were pleasantly shocked at actually how good it turned out. Followed the recipe as planned with the exception of a five week fermentation instead of four due to our busy schedule. It didn't seem to matter much. We popped the cap and poured a frosted mug that yielded fruity aromas and held a golden amber color. There wasn't an overwhelming taste of hops to disguise the overall taste of the beer. There was a perfect balance between malt, hops and herbs. We will definitely be brewing this again in the future. It may even convince us to upgrade our 1 gallon kit! If your an IPA fan, as we are, I highly suggest this kit! Happy Brewing! (Posted on 3/28/13)
Darn good for a 1 gallon batch! Moving on to the 5 gallon... Review by Greg
Rating
I bought this kit purely to test out this recipe. Hey, it's probably not exactly like the 5 gallon batch, but at least it'd be close, right? Well, I was very impressed with the outcome. My batch was quick and simple but came out really well, and 6-8 weeks after bottling it was even better. Had really nice malty flavor with firm but not overwhelming bitterness, and amazing hop aroma. When I was brewing this I'm thinking, "well if this doesn't turn out, at least it's only a half case of 12 oz bottles...". Turns out I blew through those pretty quickly it was so good. This beer is fantastic.

A note on 1 gallon brewing... It definitely made for a fun and fast and easy brew day and cleanup was a snap. I also racked this to a secondary after about a week, which resulted in some loss, so I ended up with a couple bottles shy of a 12-pack, unfortunately. My only negative here is that bottling a dozen 12 oz bottles was almost as much work as bottling 24 bombers from a 5 gallon batch...not much time saving in bottling and you'll probably go through the half case in no time.

Net/net - Try this kit to test out Dead Ringer before brewing a larger Extract batch, you'll be happy you do, but you also can't go wrong with the full size batch as well. (Posted on 1/15/13)

This was my first brew of this size and it was super easy. Followed the recipe as closely as I could. Beer came out slightly opaque but pretty clear for only using primary fermentation! First few beers: hop-y precisely like I was expecting, malt characteristics were stronger than I expected, giving it a full body that was very enjoyable. Last few beers (after aging for 3-4 few weeks): more citrus-y and hop-y, lost a fair amount of the strong malt flavor, still very good! (Posted on 1/10/13)

Just got to do the first taste for this one and it's excellent. Did everything according to the recipe and I'm really pleased with it. Hops are really hoppy and as far as the carb - NB fizz drops really got it done! Cheers for the 1 gallon kits NB!! (Posted on 12/31/12)
