Product details

A variation on our extremely popular Kölsch recipe with the addition of honey and a new yeast strain for a lighter body and flavor. Like our original Kölsch kit, this recipe features a pale color, light body, and smooth mouthfeel. Honey adds subtle floral character and lightens the body by fermenting to dryness. Really nice as a summer brew for barbecues and picnics, or to wean your friends off watery mass-produced lagers.

Quite tasty

One smooth drinking beer. Everyone has enjoyed it. Will definitely brew it again.

Meets expectations, Northern Brewer delivers

All components delivered as expected. I’m still learning. I chose this one as a lighter flavored beer to test my skills. I hit a higher OG pre-boil almost to the point that I could have skipped the pound of honey. But I added it and adjusted to target OG with extra water. Primary only for 4 weeks at 60F. Tasted bottles at one week and it is good. Can’t say I taste any honey despite also priming with honey. I would buy again to keep practicing.

good beer. easy brew

Definitely will become a regular. friends and family liked it as well. nice and light but still more flavor than your typical light lager.

Add this to your rotation

I was a little skeptical of making a lager recipe in the summer, and with ale yeast too. However, this was totally worth it. I highly recommend you add this to your rotation of beers in the summer (or even late summer/early fall) time. If you let this lager even a week, the honey flavor definitely comes through and really rounds out the taste. Although maintaining lower fermenting temps can be hard, this one doesn't require it. I used the suggested SafAle yeast, and tried to keep it at or under 68 (even during peak ferm), and it came out tasting great.
