Product Details

HopShot is CO2-extracted hop resin that can be used for bittering or late additions to boiling wort — treat it just like leaf or pellet hops added during the boil. The HopShot syringe contains 5 milliliters of extract. One milliliter of HopShot yields approximately 10 IBUs in 5 gallons of 1.050 wort when boiled for 60 minutes. Test batches indicate that this bitterness may be slightly less agressive on the palate than your average hop addition.

Does this hop extract need to be boiled, or can it be added like a dry hop addition. My wife is celiac so drinks cider instead of beer. Want to get on the hopped cider bandwagon. Have tried dry hopping with pellets and didn't get the desired effect. Could I add some of this without boiling? If so, would it contribute flavor/aroma, bittering or both?

Best Answer: The hop shot still needs to be heated in water so could be used like this, but it is designed to give an efficient burst of hop oils, not flavors. I would recommend trying whole leaf hops over pellets, and try to only let them steep for 7 days at most for a nice clean flavor. Also, consider some different hop varieties, finding the right one will make all the difference.
