Details

Imperial stouts were first brewed in England for export to the royal courts of the Russian Tsars. The Tsars are gone but the beer remains, the "War and Peace" of stouts. This kit yields a pitch black beer with tan head, resounding with burnt, bitter chocolate character, hops, and syrupy malt. A viscous, chewy body finishing with lots of roast grain and a warming alcohol note. A nice companion on a cold winter night or accompanying chocolate dessert. Recommended: 2-stage fermentation and yeast starter.

Hit your Pitch Rates..be greatly rewarded Review by Patrick

Brewed this back in November, now a few days away from expected full carb. Opened a bottle tonight tastes great lots of complexity. I pitched pretty high and got full attenuation, fermented at 68 for 10 days than racked and let sit in secondary. I'm entering this in a local homebrew contest in March. I have a good feeling. Great Job Northern Brewer!! Great kit!!! I used Wyeast 1728 with a large starter and stir plate. (Posted on 2/9/14)

Gonna be a great one... Review by Mark

Just put it into secondary, taste was excellent at this point. Added a little bourbon and oak chips. Will give it a month and a half in glass and another month and a half in a keg. Should be good by turkey day. Hit the numbers perfect when run through beer smith. Sure this wont last long, probably ought to start one more now. Will update in December! Ditto on a blowoff tube but put in a milk jug of sanitizer and put that in a 5 gallon tub...in the am after brew day I had lost a gallon from what I originally had after the boil due to such a violent eat through! My bad, shoulda checked at night. Cleaned counter and floors in basement! (Posted on 8/11/13)
Amazing Beer with great flavor Review by Andrew

I made this beer into an Imperial Chocolate Milk Stout. I added half a pound of cocoa nibs and one pound of lactose sugar. It turned out amazing with just the right amount of chocolate flavor for the ABV level. I will be using this recipe again. (Posted on 8/9/13)

Easy kit to follow with excellent results. Just put in into the secondary and it has good flavor. I will give it another 2 months before kegging. I am brewing another 5 gallons today. The numbers look good. I great beer to start so you can be ready for winter. (Posted on 7/21/13)

Brew this. At times, i get tired of Cascade hops showing up everywhere so I replaced the Cascade hops with Santiam hops and it came out so smooth and delicious. Give it a try. (Posted on 4/30/12)
Buy it,brew it, repeat Review by Tim

I have been brewing for about two years now, somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 brews, and this is by far the best beer I have ever made. Easily on par with commercial examples that cost $7 for a bomber. My only recommendation would be to start another batch mid way through secondary fermentation so you don't run out. Worth the wait Review by Derek

This is a fantastic beer. I used the dry yeast, primary for two weeks, secondary for 2 months and bottle conditioned for 2 months. It ties up your fermentors for awhile but it's a great beer if you have the patience. It has great mouth feel, taste and aroma. I agree with the other reviewer, if you're going to do a closed fermentation on this then use a blow off hose. (Posted on 1/10/11)
A Real Crowd Pleaser Review by Berwyn Brewing

An outstanding kit, we got great remarks from our brew club on this one. Easy to brew and a fantastic product, we even converted some lite beer drinkers with this one. a Few thoughts:

Definetely use a blow off tube on this one, it goes nuts if you pitch right.
A big improvement after conditioning at cellar temps for at least a month.
Has a perfect balance of malt /hops.
