Pricey, but... Review by Dave

Well built. The temp increase makes it perfect for growing yeast. It is a little noisy but nothing really objectionable. Mine makes a slight scraping sound upon every revolution of the motor. (Posted on 1/19/11)
Raises starter temp 10 deg and is noisy... Review by Erichiwaann

I brew high gravity beers and purchased two units to stir a couple of 2 liter flasks. The electronics use a variable potentiometer to control mag stir bar rotation speeds and employs an internal rectifiers large ceramic resistor that gets hot and will raise starter temps 10 deg F at a speed setting of 3 (above 3 /3.5 the bar will throw in a wort SG 1.040). Each unit motor bearings are noisy and had a different resistor/discreet electronics which may be an upgrade or sourcing issue. These stir plates can be factory ordered with additional heating controls, the holes are covered by the front sticker. The included small mag stir bar has a raised center ring and is very noisy while spinning. The 50mm mag stir bar works better but varies in build quality. Finally: I currently use orbital shakers that do not raise starter temps and are quiet and can hold several 2L starters... (Posted on 12/28/10)
First Use Review by TimmyR
Just received this stir plate to run alongside my Hanna. It comes with a little raised-edge stir bar. I switched the stir bar for a larger one with no mid-rib. On a 1L starter in a 2L flask, I am having trouble spinning the bar fast enough to see any vortex at all without throwing the bar. I think the bar may be the problem, but my Hanna has NO problems at all with a similar bar. I will follow-up post on what I find with other stir-bars. I may need to use the short one for smaller starters. (Posted on 5/30/10)
