Should I run the stir plate right up til time to pitch?
A shopper on Jun 29, 2015
Best Answer: You can either run the stir plate until it is time to pitch and add the whole starter. Some batches like light lagers, but many people would say every batch, will turn out better if you decant the spent liquid and just add the yeast. The stir plate is programmable so you can set it to stop spinning a period before brewing so you can just come home and find a flocculated starter ready to decant and add directly, or chill to further stratify the yeast and liquid layers.

What is the power source? Is the unit corded for 110v or battery? It says it comes with a 12v adapter, what is that? Thanks!
Brew Dawg on Jul 28, 2015
Best Answer: There is no battery option. The plug is 120V and the adapter changes that to 12V during use. Compatable with a standard US wall socket.

Can this be used to aerate your wort?
James B on Jul 7, 2015
Best Answer: Stir Plates for brewing are generally used to keep yeast suspended for a yeast starter, while also pulling in a small amount of air. In that sense, it will aerate, but not as well as something like our Oxygenation kit 2.0.
