Everyone loves the color... Review by JohnT

I've been on a quest to find a simple recipe that yields a friend-favorite beer. This LME is the base for that, and it always comes through. Never had any problems using this, and I love it. Price is good compared to other brands. Oh, and as for the 5 gal recipe: Steep 1 lb of caramalt in a bag for 20 minutes in 2 gal 180 degree water. Remove grains and add another gallon of hot water and bring to boil. Remove from heat, and add 6 lb of this Amber, return to boil. Add 1 oz cascade and 1 oz centennial hops, and boil for 45-60 minutes. Use US-05 or 1272 yeast. Week or two in primary. Everyone loves both the look and taste of this beer. About 5% alc. Northern Brewer describes how their extract is made frequently and therefore very fresh when you receive it, and I absolutely believe them. The quality of their extracts is consistently high. This is a good value considering it's an easy way to add density to your wort. (Posted on 9/22/13)

I use 9lbs of this to make brown ale. it will make 24-25L of 1052-1054 G. I wish the price was lower but I can still make that batch with the US-05 and 1 lb of cristal 60 + hopps for about 37$ (Posted on 8/15/13)

I used this in Scottish Wee Heavy as a replacement for an amber malt that was discontinued by another supplier. Tough to tell for sure, since the previous brew is all gone, but I do think the new batches are slightly better.

Love that Scottish Ale. (Posted on 8/29/12)

Hefe300 you annoy me why give 4 stars when you dont give a reason why it didnt deserve 5 stars? Very annoying. This malt is fantastic. Not a single thing wrong with it (Posted on 6/15/12)

I made a pretty simple batch of American Amber with this as a base and it turned out really well. I'd use this again. (Posted on 12/15/10)

I had a bad experience with another extract so I was anxious to get started using this one . What a world of difference, I was planning my recipe based on a 1.036 boil gravity and this extract delivered almost spot on (1.037) . Couldn't be happier and I'm waiting to taste the end results, I'm sure from the other reviews I've got nothing to worry about. Just so you know, I did three pounds to make three gallons of wort, chilled three samples to an appropriate temperature and took the average of the readings VERY EASY AND HARD TO DO WRONG. If you can put a hydrometer into a tube and you can take the temperature of the liquid then you may as well take a sample reading to ensure your hops utilization is correct! (Posted on 8/3/10)
