Details
Maris Otter is an "heirloom" barley variety grown entirely on the British Isles. It is a stubborn paragon of character and flavor, trumping commercial desires for high yield and disease resistance. Though replacement barley varieties have come after, it remains the most prized British malt for an astounding depth of flavor and aroma.
Much like that heirloom malt, we have insisted upon a classic formula - 100% Maris Otter, with no added caramel malts or simple sugars, no corners cut in the name of cost. The result is a malt extract worthy of the best brewers. It is an extract of unmatched complexity, sure to bring you the "wow"s you deserve.
1.036 ppg gravity contribution, 4-5 SRM, excellent fermentability, and authentic English character - grainy, bready, and slightly nutty. Just harness this built-in malt profile to your favorite English hops and yeast (we love this syrup combined with Wyeast 1945 NeoBritannia) for a faithful “real ale” quality never before accessible to extract brewers.

I used Maris Otter Malt Syrup in a Irish Cream Ale recipe and the results were great. I've only been brewing for about 6 months and out of the 7 batches I've done so far, the Irish Cream Ale is is tied with a Honey Nut Brown Ale for my best batch. Just made my 3rd batch of the Innkeeper and first one with the Maris Otter. Didn't think the beer could get better but I was wrong. Its still young (week in the keg) but already I am loving this beer. Gonna try using it in an English IPA next, but no doubt will be good. I was excited to try this extract after all I've read about the Maris Otter malt. Unfortunately, after a couple of brews with this extract (an APA and an ESB), I have to say that I don't really notice a significant flavor difference from the organic light malt extract which I normally use. Also, it appears to be less fermentable. Relative to the organic light, my final gravities have been consistently 5 points higher. Otherwise, it's a perfectly fine extract on it's own, just not particularly striking. (Posted on 12/15/12)Rating - Flawless Review by Thomas

As an all-grain brewer for 20 years, I forgot how easy it is to use extract. I converted one of my recipes that use Maris Otter over to this extract and the results were great. Same fresh biscuit British flavor you expect from this base malt. I would be hard-pressed to tell my all-grain version from the one made with this extract.
