so this bucket was my first fermenter and it served me well, initially as a primary, then now as a mixing bucket and star san storage............while i was looking at buying new buckets, i read the reviews here about cracks in the perimeter around the base and have verified that there are two cracks that seem to be more than a couple of inches each.

ive never had a problem with sanitation and i have had this bucket for maybe 2.5 or three years; but i am hesitant to buy another bucket of the same make unless i am at the store in person and can pick it up and look at the base against the light from the inside......which is how i discovered the cracks. These buckets are great because they are much better size for brewers than the smaller 6 gallon buckets. The problem is that they do not last very long. These things crack along the bottom perimeter quite quickly when moving around the buckets full of liquid.

I wish they didn't crack like this or I would use them exclusively because I have never had blow off with them. (Posted on 7/15/11)

These provide an enormous amount of space for very active fermentations. Only twice in about 50 batches have I had to use a blow off tube. When I was using 6.5 gal glass carboys I needed to rig one up whenever I had a 7% or higher ABV.

One word of caution. I stupidly did not let one of these dry all the way, and stacked another bucket inside after a long night of brewing. A week later when I was re-arranging my beer gear I noticed some mold. A real hard facepalm and an over night soaking in bleach took care of it, but if that would have been left any longer I would hate to see what would have happened. (Posted on 5/27/11)

This bucket works great for my brewing needs. Having the handle is a great perk and makes it easy to lift. Sanitizing and cleaning is easy as long as you don't scratch the plastic. The only draw back is the lid (sold separately) is a bit of a pain to get on and off and can tear on the edges if you are not careful opening it. Other than that this bucket works great and is cheaper than most other fermenters. (Posted on 12/11/10)
