Another Curt and Kathy creation, this melomel also uses a sweet mead for a base, but adds blackberry puree instead of raspberry during secondary fermentation. This adds tannin as well as acid into the flavor complex; combined with the deeper color of the fruit, this melomel has elements of a sweet late-harvest red wine or ruby port mixed in with the floral high notes of wildflower honey.

"sweet" is mentioned multiple times in the description and instructions. After starting at 1.115 it finished primary at 1.000, which is anything but...
I think it's salvageable but $84 is a lot to spend on something and not remotely get what you signed up to buy.

I am primarily an extract beer brewer, but I have experimented with mead. I've tried a number of different recipes that I put together, but this kit surpasses them all. I highly recommend it. It is quite sweet, and the blackberries really offset the sweetness nicely. The instructions were straightforward, and I liked that there was no acid blend or other additives. (Posted on 5/16/10)
