HEAT SENSITIVE Review by Sean

I put the unit in a sink with very warm, but not hot water, and now it is covered in cracks. This is a very, very fragile piece of equipment. I would not recommend it for anyone who may use it with anything above 80 degrees. (Posted on 5/8/12)
Not quality product Review by EyeHop

This is not a quality item. Pretty happy with most of NB's products, but not this one. Severe cracking throughout and doesn't sit level. (Posted on 4/6/12)

Mine came in the Deluxe Kit and leaked the first time I put liquid in it. (Posted on 4/1/12)
DO NOT BUY THIS ONE! Review by Jonyhotdog

used it twice. cleaned out with only warm water. went to use it today and it was full of cracks. I think the alcohol attacks the plastic, causing the cracking (Posted on 12/14/11)
Fragile Review by Charles

Like a few other reviewers here I had this product crack after it tipped over empty on my counter. It still holds liquid and is the original shape, but this item is very fragile and can break easy. It is good enough if it comes in your starter kit. I would not buy it alone. (Posted on 5/11/11)

Cracks easily. Mine rolled off the countertop and broke almost like glass. It seems like a more durable plastic could be used. (Posted on 12/30/10)
Its ok but not great Review by mnclayshooter

This is an ok test jar/cylinder. The only complaint I have about it is that the one I got as part of the brew kit I purchased was not assembled squarely. The base is slightly off plumb from the cylinder. I didn't realize this until about my 4th batch. It doesn't seem like it would cause a problem until you look and see that the hydromter will float to one side and bias itself against the wall of the test jar giving you false readings because it isn't floating freely. Oh well. about 15 batches later, I'm still using it with a dime placed under one side to even it out. I'll eventually replace it or purchase a glass graduated cylinder from a science vendor, but until then, it works as described with my modification. Hope your luck is better than mine at getting one that's assembled to tighter tolerances.

I haven't had any cracking issues as other posters have described and have used it for about 20 batches of beer so far. Just basically rinse it after use in kitchen sink (no bottleable beer comes in contact with it ever so no need to sterlize it with any chems or heat etc... maybe that's why they're cracking??) If you use a beer theif or syphon some beer into it, you'll never contaminate your carboy/fermenting vessel, right? just get some beer to the jar, take your readings then either taste test from the jar, or dump it down the drain... just trying to speculate why they'd crack.
