- Just gets thrown Review by LiquidFlame

I'm using a 2000ml flask and no matter what I tried, the stir bar would just get thrown to the side. My local brew shop finally got a shipment of the 1" stir bars, so I went and picked one up and to my amazement it worked great the frist time I dropped it in. I don't know if you need to use a 5000ml flask to get this stir bar to work, but I would stay away from it. I bought this bar because I had a bad throwing problem with my old 50mm bar with no center ring on it. I have a home-made computer fan stir plate with a couple of neodymium magnets on it. The center ring took the curse out of my system and all it does is work. Very happy with it. (Posted on 11/13/11)Rating - Need to research your stirrer before buying Review by ddd

Re bad reviews, keep in mind that most inexpensive stirrers are designed for a 25mm bar. Many industrial stirrers such as Cimarec etc with larger plates (7" and above) are designed for the 50mm stirrers. You can't stir a 4L flask with a $100 stirrer just by adding a larger bar. It will throw it. Chances are if your flask is hanging well over the edges of the stirrer it is time to upgrade (and unfortunately it won't be a $10 fix). Most inexpensive stirrers excel at 1L batches and struggle (at best) beyond 2L. On a homemade stirrer the magnets must be spaced properly and strong enough to handle a 50mm as well, if they are too close together / too weak it will throw. Tried it on my home made stir plate and my factory made stir plate. Throws it off as soon as I turn them on at any speed. Will be sending it back ASAP. Magnet is very weak even compared to my much smaller bar. (Posted on 11/7/11)Rating - expensive paper weight Review by c-brew

wish i would have read the reviews before spending $10 on this. it just gets thrown around my 2000ml at any speed. went back to my white 50mm. a waste. jeers! (Posted on 3/8/11)Rating - Does the job Review by Drew

I had some problems with this getting "thrown" in my home made stir plate. I reduced the power supply and this stir bar worked just fine. It does make a bit more noise than the 50 MM white. (Posted on 3/5/11)Rating - Makes too much noise Review by BrewMonkey

I bought this with my first starter flask. It makes way to much noise for me. It creates a good enough vortex but seems to rattle against the glass a lot. I will be trying a standard stir bar to compare. (Posted on 1/5/11)Rating - I have all 3 and this is my main stir bar. Review by Proofman

I have several stir bars including the white 25 & 50 mm and this one is the only one I use since I got it. I bought this one over a year ago because I thought it would be less likely to throw the bar on my homemade stir plate and I was correct. I use it on 500 to 2000 ml starters (in fact it is spinning away right next to me now). The bar has only been thrown once out of, maybe, the last 10 starters. I've used this w/ three different stir plates w/ varying volumes between 500 and 4000mL. Throws every time no matter the speed or volume. (Posted on 12/7/10)Rating - Waste. Review by Bert1097

Have tried to use this on 3 different stir plates for starters anywhere between 500mL and 4000mL w/o success. Throws it every time no matter the speed or size of the starter. (Posted on 12/7/10)Rating
