Chinook IPA Extract Kit w/ Specialty Grains

SKU: U1480
Rating
82 Review(s)

This American IPA has a relatively modest gravity and an immodest hop character derived entirely from a single hop variety. Chinook hops have long been used by US brewers for bittering additions, but their intense aroma and flavor have caught on only recently. This kit is a bit lower in gravity and lighter in body than our other IPA recipes, which enhances the perceived bitterness and reduces the aging requirements. It shows up in the glass with a reddish-gold color and a thick, resinous Chinook aroma that lingers after the glass is emptied.

My First Beer Review by Randall

My first homebrew. Came out amazing. 48 bottles of a nice and balanced IPA. I was never hopped out. Chinook hops have a nice flavor, less pine like than some others. Average gravity and alcohol content. (Posted on 1/23/12)
Great IPA! Review by Jeffrey

Really liked the grapefruit flavors! Drank most of it after two weeks in the bottles, I've held two back to age, been about 8 months now. I'll open them when it hits a year, and add another review! (Posted on 1/15/12)

Followed this recipe to the T. But only came out at 5% ABV:-( Bottled this and cracked one open after a week...way too soon, which I knew it would be...the longer it sits the better it is. First time w/ NB and will be back. (Posted on 1/9/12)

for the first time brewer as this ale will leave you thinking it was all worth it. Awesome smelll and taste and not too heavy. Even some of my non hoppy friends liked this one. I will brew this kit more than any other kit available. (Posted on 1/6/12)
Currently Fermenting Review by Spence

First brew I made in about 2 years and am a little bit worried that I may have added the yeast before it was cool enough. Today is the fourth day in the primary, and so far the yeast activity level is pretty mellow. Is that normal for this beer? Any tips to get it going? (Posted on 1/4/12)
Classic IPA Review by AndyS

Simple and easy to brew, this IPA comes out as one of the tastiest I have ever brewed. Suggest using a mesh bag for the dry hops. I was sad to see it go so quickly, probably will not tell my friends when I brew this again. (Posted on 1/1/12)
Fabulous IPA Review by John

First brew in about five years, mostly because the local availability of specialty beers is excellent, but I'm glad I gave it a go. Broke it out on Christmas Eve with some family and they all loved it. I will definitely be making this one again. (Posted on 12/29/11)
It still turned out great Review by Jewski

Instead of secondary fermentation I kept it in the primary for an extra week, after a blow off this beer turned out real good. It's crisp, has a good citrus flavor, and hoppy for the hopheads; brew it. (Posted on 12/21/11)
Terrific Beer Review by RQ

This is one smooth IPA. The aroma is fruity with a mild hoppiness. The kit was easy to make and I was drinking delicious beer in 6 weeks. The head retention was very good, which is great, because you can enjoy that great aroma for a long while. (Posted on 12/19/11)
