Chinook IPA Extract Kit w/ Specialty Grains

This American IPA has a relatively modest gravity and an immodest hop character derived entirely from a single hop variety. Chinook hops have long been used by US brewers for bittering additions, but their intense aroma and flavor have caught on only recently. This kit is a bit lower in gravity and lighter in body than our other IPA recipes, which enhances the perceived bitterness and reduces the aging requirements. It shows up in the glass with a reddish-gold color and a thick, resinous Chinook aroma that lingers after the glass is emptied.

Brewed 3 batches of this to serve at my wedding as favors and everyone who's drank it said they loved it. Will be making again! (Posted on 3/25/15)
Good beer Review by John

This hops in this beer do not jump out at you, however, it is very drinkable. I have some hops left over from other kits so I might take the suggestions of others and order this and use the extra hops to "pump it up" a bit. (Posted on 2/28/15)
Great recipe. Better when modified. Review by Dustin

I made this twice. The first time it was terrific, but not what I think of when I think "IPA". So I brewed it again and doubled the hops at every addition (both brew and secondary). The result was a terrific IPA. (Posted on 1/9/15)
Delicious ... citrus/pineapple IPA Review by Jason

My first IPA and 3rd brew ever. Very drinkable and tasty. I've never had an IPA that tasted so fruity/pineapple. Someone said passionfruit which I've never tasted but might be accurate. Took me a bit to get used to but now I really enjoy it. 3 weeks in primary and 2 weeks in bottle. (Posted on 11/27/14)

Very happy with this batch. Is first for using filtered water. Used 650 mL starter with White Labs yeast for 24 hours. estimated OG 1050 -- realized I'd not san'd a thief and it was already in primary, and extract kits in my experience usually a little shy of prescribed OG. FG 1013. Great clarity and flavor. (Posted on 11/10/14)
Good session ipa Review by guy

I dry hopped a couple extra oz of chinook 1 oz at a time in secondary. I was trying to see how hoppy I could get it using only 1 hop variety. It turned out very good. Very drinkable. Good flavor. Probably won't do again as I prefer the higher abv beers but if u like session ales you won't be disappointed. (Posted on 10/21/14)
Can't get enough of this one! Review by justin

awesome recipe, malt balances hops perfectly, love the pine, grapefruit citrus like notes from the chinook hops. I will be brewing this again... 14 days primary, 14 weeks secondary (dry hopped the last 7 days).. Took about 3 weeks to fully carb at room temp (68 degrees).. A must to have on hand in this house from now on! (Posted on 10/18/14)

Pleasing Review by Chip

I am a absolute fan of all IPAs bt the hoppier the better. I steeped some of my home grown cascade hopes with the grains. Not sure that was a good idea at the time. Followed the directions to the letter. I had to put a blow out tube in after only 8 hours. Primary for 2 weeks and secondary for 3. I dropped with 5 days before bottling. In the past, my beer has taken a long time to develop the appropriate carbonation. This time I added a little extra bottling sugar in hopes of getting a little carbonation. Something worked because after only 12 days in bottle it is EXCELLENT! Wow, Can't wait to see how it shapes up in a couple weeks, if it last that long. Good solid flavor and excellent follow through. The first sip tastes like...More. I will definitely buy this again. (Posted on 10/14/14)
First Brew Attempt Review by MattyJ

So this was my first attempt at homebrewing. Did a full boil (6.5 gal) and modified the hop schedule. After 4 weeks of fermentation (2 primary, 2 secondary), I bottled it and let it carb for 10 days before trying one. First bottle I opened had pretty good carb, and tasted pretty darn good. I tried a few more in the following days and they were all great! I've managed to save a case as I was on vacation, and now after 3 weeks in the bottle I'm enjoying this brew more and more. It'd definitely not as hoppy as I thought it was going to be, but it's a very drinkable beer that everyone seems to enjoy. Not bad for my first brew! (Posted on 9/2/14)
