Is it a half IPA? Is it a pale ale? What’s in a name, after all? We’re taking you back to school, back to basics, with this SMASH (single-malt single-hop)-style delight. Not only are we going back to school, we’re hitting the latest in style-confounding marketing-speak: American Session Ale.

We strongly recommend ordering dry yeast in the summer months. We do include complimentary ice packs with all liquid yeasts, but it is difficult to guarantee that the ice packs will survive the trip given transit times and particularly hot temperatures.

SMASH is about taking things back — way back, to when American Pale Ale was edgy and new. The thing is, time travel is hard, and we’re thinking there’s enough Cascade-only pale stuff out there, so we’re going to use a decidedly new-school single hop: Simcoe.

The pine and jungle stinker herself, Simcoe is boastful and bombastic, packing tons of hop flavor and aroma into a neat little package. SMASH takes a clean, dry malt base, with a low gravity for extra drinkability, and piles on a healthy dose of delicious hoppiness. Think of it as a way to deliver a metric hogshead of hop flavor and aroma in a tidy 4.5% ABV package.

What does smash stand for?

Best Answer: Single Malt and Single Hop - this beer utilizes nothing but Pilsner and Simcoe to make a very hoppy low alcohol pale ale

How do I add the hops after one week on fermentation? Remove the fermenter lid and drop them in? Won't this allow oxygen or bacteria to get in?

Best Answer: You want to limit how long the airlock stays off and be smart about it. Don;t go eating a cheeseburger while doing this; wash your hands and have the fermentor away from open windows in a room with limited air flow. Make sure things are clean and spray some sanitizer solution on the hop bag, scissors, your hands, around the fermentor, however obsessive you want to be about it. I personally only sanitize scissors if needed, and just pop it open quick, pour the hops in, and close it right back up. Keep it Simple
