NB's hometown gives its name to our robust porter kit - an assertive black ale dominated by roast-coffee and chocolate character and hop bitterness. Toffee-like maltiness and citrusy hop flavor are in there as well, with a medium-full body and lingering roast malt/hop bitterness before a bittersweet finish.

We like spiking barbecue sauce with a splash of this porter; it's also great with strong cheese like sharp cheddar or Stilton.

Just as I wanted it been having issues brewing lately this one pulled me out of it added a little more cascades that I grow and re racked it with an Belgian yeast strain the beer tastes like a good porter very north west thanks

This is the third year I've made this recipe and all three have been just fine. The brew is tasty, lightly sweet, not hoppy and consistent in flavor. It is my go to winter brew.

Better than store bought

After brewing the St. Paul Porter a few times with minor tweaks, I can honestly say that store bought porters now seem watered down. The porter extract kit from Northern Brewer is a must try if you like porters and stouts.
