Product Details

The Thrumometer is an in-line thermometer, ideal for measuring the temperature of your wort outflow from a counterflow chiller. The interior of this thermometer is mirror smooth, providing no places for bacteria to hide. This thermometer responds very quickly (1°F per second), has 1°F precision, and 0.5°F accuracy. It never needs calibrating. If you use a highly-efficient counterflow wort chiller, the Thrumometer will help you avoid over-chilling your wort, and will save water. This instrument is made from a head-treated highly corrosion-resistant aluminum alloy that will last a lifetime! Requires 3/8" ID tubing. Should not be used with liquids exceeding 140°F.

Why is the temperature limit 140 deg F? Is there another in-line product that is acceptable up to 212 deg F?

Best Answer: The thermometer strip on this product is plastic, much like a Fermometer. It would be damaged by higher temperatures. It is really intended to monitor the temp going into your fermentor.
To measure boiling wort, you could mount a standard NPT dial thermometer into a stainless steel T fitting of some sort and use NPT/hose barbs to attach that to your tubing.

How is this unit sanitized for use? It is obviously used on the "cool" side of the counter flow chiller precluding sanitizing by hot wort or pasteurizing water flow.

Best Answer: The ThruMometer should be sanitized using a product such as Star San or Saniclean. A quick soak should do the trick.
