Details
Barolkleen is used to prepare a new oak barrel for winemaking, or to clean old barrels.
To treat a new barrel, use 1 pound Barolkleen per 5 gallons of hot water, soak for at least 48 hours. Drain and flush with water until it runs clear, then rinse with a solution of 2 oz sodium sulfite and 1 oz citric acid in 2 gallons of water.
To clean a barrel that has been in use, first rinse with clean water, dry, and burn a sulphur strip inside. Follow with a solution of 3 oz Barolkleen per gallon of water; fill half-full, bung the barrel, and slosh the solution around inside periodically for 45 minutes. Drain and rinse with water.
