A Brew Kettle of Epic Proportions!

The 15 Gallon Tall Boy® is serious kettle for the brewer who wants the option to brew 5 or 10 gallon batches. The 15 gallon size allows plenty of space to boil 11-12 gallons of wort.

This kettle can also serve as a mash tun for 5 gallon all-grain brewers using the optional false bottom. Easily accommodates even the largest grain bills. Ideal for: Boiling 11-12 gallons of wort.

This is no repurposed stock pot. The Tall Boy® is made specifically for homebrewers. Brew scientists have determined that the ideal height to diameter ratio for a brew kettle should be 1.2:1 in order to optimize boil performance. The Tall Boy reduces evaporative losses, and less evaporative cooling means a more vigorous boil. A vigorous boil means more volatilization of off flavors, and better hop utilization. All of that means better beer. Add to that it’s 4mm thick tri-clad bottom, designed to stop bullets and prevent scorching, and you’ve got a serious brewer’s tool. The Tall Boy logo is laser etched into the surface as a subtle indication to the world that you take brewing seriously.

Don't settle for anything less!
Over the Memorial Day weekend, I used this huge kettle to brew up my very first all-grain batch of APA. It was more than up to the task of handling about 8 gallons of water and a 10+ lb. grain bill with zero risk of boil-over.My only regret is that I purchased the 8-gallon model earlier instead of going straight to this big guy.

Boy, you've got to carry that weight...
With apologies to the Beatles, when you get into pots of this size, weight becomes a major consideration, and this one can handle it. I bought it for the purpose of doing 10 gallon batches, and it has worked very well. Let's do the math: Water weighs 8.345 pounds/gallon, plus throwing in 20 pounds of fermentable solids makes for a payload more than 100 pounds. The handles can take it when it's time to lift the whole works off the burner (although you might want to think about your back…). The lid fits well and construction overall is very good. The surface finish cleans easily. The sides are heavy enough without being overly thick, which simply adds weight. The bottom has an extra layer for strength and heat distribution.

Go to for the average brewer
I purchased this for my primary brew kettle after nearly boiling over several batches in the 10 gallon kettle. I can easily brew up 7 gallon batches with little concerns of foam reaching the top. I can crank up the heat and get a true rolling boil. I've also noticed about 25% reduction in volume loss. This is sturdy and high quality. Cleans up nice with a "white" scrubby pad. I have not regretted this purchase. For all grain brewing full volume boil this sliced bread with peanut butter & jelly!

Great for BIAB
First of all, I use my 15 gallon Tall Boy only for BIAB (Brew in a Bag). This gives me room to brew as little as 5 gallons or as much as 10 gallons of beer in one vessel (7.5 gallons is the sweet spot). The construction is sturdy, the lid fits perfectly, and the tri-clad base helps with even heating. For my purposes it's great. Wait for 20% off if you want a good deal. Why 4 stars instead of 5? Tall Boy's do not come with graduated volume markings, ball valve, thermometer, or sight glass. If you want that pay more and get a Megapot 1.2. I'd rather spend money on grain and hops.If you're looking for solid quaility at a decent price get a Tall Boy. Want a great price? Wait for a promotion.

Dented
I price and size was great, but the kettle was dented. I did receive compensation for the product, which makes me square with Northern brewer, but not the tall boy kettle.

Response from Northern Brewer
Replacement is an alternative solution to dents from shipping.
