I bought this to replace a standard ball lock on a bayou kekettle. It doesn't work. The threads ate different even though it says 1/2". Don't waste your money.

Great piece of equipment!
I love these things. I always break them down and soak/wash them, then reassemble and toss them into a pressure cooker to sterilize. The whole process of taking them apart and reassembling can be done in just a few short minutes. They stand up great to the heat and pressure of the cooker...just make sure you don't let the cooker run dry or it may deform the nylon washers.

Excelent valve
Added one to my mash tun and kettle. Excellent control over the flow rate and locking mechanism is nice. Would have potentially given 5 stars but I haven't had the opportunity to disassemble it.

Built mine from 10 gl. Home Depot / rubbermaid cooler
Wasn't sure what to get when I purchased this, I needed it to build a mash/lauter tun out of an orange 10 gal. water cooler from Home Depot. This one looked great because you can take it completely apart for cleaning. My false bottom has an 3/8" stem, and the 3/8" Blichmann ball valves were sold out, so I got the 1/2 in ball valve and then just ordered 3/8 in reducers for both ends and a 1/2 bulkhead. I put it together and was very glad I went with the 1/2 in, there was still some space between the cooler wall and the valve, and if I would have bought the 3/8 in it would have been a much bigger gap. The bulkhead came with instructions and two nice size O-rings, so it was nothing to worry about. Used two layers of teflon tape per connection and everything is leak proof. I built two and couldn't be happier. I read some complaints about the locking mechanism on the ball valves .......I don't think it is a problem really. The other nice thing about reducing to 3/8 in is to slow down the flow to prevent stuck sparges.

Can I use this to add a valve to my sanky keg brew kettle?
J U on Jan 11, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I'm using mine on a 12 gallon brew kettle and it has worked great so far (5 brews) I would believe my kettle has a sharper curvature than a sanky keg. I would expect you to have no problem using it for this purpose.
I need to replace the Teflon washers. Suggestions on where to find them?

BEST ANSWER: The first place I would check would be your local hardware store. Even if they don't have something in stock, they may be able to order something for you. You could even bring in the ball valve for them to look at.
What size hole is required for installation?
