Product Details

1000 ml borosilicate glass flask is an excellent all-around yeast starter vessel. Takes a #8.5 stopper or 35-45 mm foam stopper - for optimum fit, especially when propagating yeast, we highly recommend using a foam stopper.

Does the job
This is a basic flask. I wish it fit my standard stopper, which is a little annoying. I haven't had problems with breaking (yet) and have boiled it fine on the stove. I admit that I'm pretty careful with it because of all of the breakage reports.

Serves its purpose
I use it mostly as a dehydration vessel since I extract brew works perfect

Works well just be careful when handling it/cleaning it
The flask arrived intact and did a great job as a vessel for my starter. However upon cleaning it in warm water, I merely bumped it against the side of my sink and it cracked a sizable hole in the flask. Glad I didn't pay more for it, the flask works well just be careful when handling it/cleaning it. Hopefully my next one will get more than one batch of yeast out of it.

No problems...
I read these reviews as I was ordering a 2000 ml flask today, and was surprised by the reports of breakage. To be fair I ordered my 1000 ml a few years ago and it is a German made one. I have to say this thing has made 30-40 starters at least, and most on an ELECTRIC stove, right on the element, from boil to cold water in seconds and not so much as a crack. Risky, yes, nonetheless I have had excellent luck, not to mention it getting bumped and tossed into a box with the other equipment. Can's speak for everyone else, I just know mine has endured more than it was supposed to. My only gripe is the size and its use being limited to small beers, which is why I am ordering a larger one. I hope I have the same luck.

Good flask for my purposes
I've made quite a few starters with this and had no problems, other than trying to get DMI through the neck of a boiling flask... (not recommended) and boilovers (also not cool, but my fault.) I've cooked it over flame (usually a camp stove outside) and dumped it in an ice bath with no problems.

Used and Wrong Size
They sent me an obviously used erlenmeyer flask that required more like a #8.5 size stopper. Very disappointed Northern Brewer!

broke on second use
The glass on these is very thin. I am careful not to go from flame to icewater, but this one broke while I was dipping it in sanitizing solution when I bumped something else.I have a very old 500ml flask that is not a useful size but is much thicker glass. They don't make 'em like they used to. These are not crazy expensive so I'm not too bummed. Just be careful....fragile!
