SO-SO
Doesn't work well with plastic airlocks. Doesn't make a good seal. Would be okay for blow off tube.

Not great, but it's 99 cents
I wish these were more durable. I ordered two and got three brews out of the pair. I didn't read the reviews prior to slightly over-tightening the first one, so I guess that one is on me. The second one cracked on after I set the 3 piece airlock into the hole too deep.

Response from Northern Brewer
Mark,

Thank you for your review. I'm sorry to hear your screw caps broke so quickly. We'd be happy to throw a couple new ones in on your next order. Simply call in your next order and we can add them on.

Cheers!

Nice cap, but not durabel enough
These caps are nice to use on my 1 gallon glass jugs for test batches; however, they crack much too easily. I made sure to take it easy when I installed them; however, this weekend I had two crack. One cracked in the center hole area, and the other cracked near the top edge (this was a delayed crack several hours after installation). It seems to me that the type of plastic used for the cap is too brittle and not durable enough for the application. I replaced both cracked caps with drilled stoppers, and all is good again.

Handy but crack over time
I have 8 of these on 1 gallon jug and growler small batch sours and meads plus 4 of them on Uline 2.5 gallon plastic carboys also for sours. I love them except I've already replaced 4 due to cracking. After the first one failed, I made sure not to over tighten, but I just found 2 more today with cracks. They've never failed when applying, only after some weeks on the vessel. They crack right at the top edge/corner which then exposes the liquid to atmosphere. When my first one failed I didn't notice for a while and lost that batch to fruit flies which had laid eggs and hatched into larvae in the neck of the jug. Now I keep an eye on them at least weekly. It's frustrating, but they are handy. I'm starting to consider buying normal growler caps, drilling a hole and installing a grommet as used on buckets.

The hole for the air
The hole for the air trap is too large

Works!
Four stars because ive had one break. Make sure not to overtighten. In my case it was tight enough where the pressure broke it.

Don't over tighten!
Cap works perfectly on 1 gallon jugs, however do not over tighten! Top plate will separate from threaded collar allowing gas to escape through the split instead of the air lock, giving the false impression of a completed or stuck fermentation. Found this out the hard way with my last batch of cider, actually broke 2 of them. Make sure you keep several spares on hand.

Which I.D. and O.D. blow off tube will fill it?
Denis B on Dec 21, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The way I prefer to make a blow off on these is to affix a three piece airlock into the hole then attach the tubing to the airlock to make a secure bridge to hold it. That works with either 5/16" or 3/8" siphon tubing - or you can just put 3/8" ID tubing into the cap. I hope this helps! Cheers. James J.
what is the ID and OD
F R on Oct 15, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The cap is 38mm and the hole for the airlock is roughly 3/8"
