- Bière de Mars is a rare subtype of the French Bière de Garde style. Bière de Garde (literally “beer for keeping”) comes from the farmhouse brewing traditions of the region, where beer was brewed in the cooler months in between growing seasons. Bière de Garde was strong and malty, capable of being stored for substantial periods of time, to be drank throughout the warm summer months to sustain the farmers until the return of the cool weather of the brewing season. Bière de Mars (literally “beer of March”) was the last beer brewed at the end of the brewing season (usually around March), brewed to a lower gravity than Bière de Garde, it was intended to be drank fresh rather than cellared like Bière de Garde - it was the last to be brewed, and the first to be drank.

Can't waite to see how it tastes after a few more weeks in the bottleJanuary 14, 2017The beer is greatThe delivery service not so good. Why does it take two weeks to get the order? I thought it was a fluke but I just ordered another and it appears it will take over a week as well.June 15, 2016HombrewerThis needs 3oz of hops, I went and bought another oz of German Spalt to try and get the IBUs up to 20. Other than that, THIS KIT IS AWESOME!!!November 9, 2015Looking forward to this one...Brewed the Extract version of this kit back in June of 2014. Came out awesome with an ABV of close to 7%. Fermented this one at the low end at 65 which let the malt shine. Very crisp and dry finish with subtle fruity notes. A winner and I am looking forward to the All-Grain version and experimenting with the flavors the yeast produce at higher fermentation temps.October 21, 2015
