Regardless of your upbringing, come March 17th everyone is Irish for a day! St. Patrick’s day celebrates Irish culture and heritage with food, festivities, and, most importantly, beer. Although in the U.S. you’ll come across rivers of green beer flowing from pub to pub, you’d be hard pressed to find the stuff in Ireland. So, to truly represent this day of Irish celebration, toss the green stuff aside and try something rooted in Irish tradition with a little modern twist: The Dundalk Irish Heavy.
Beer has been brewed in Ireland for at least 5000 years, and many styles have come and gone with the times, Dundalk Irish Heavy is an homage to those lost beers. Falling somewhere between a traditional Irish Red Ale and a Barleywine, Dundalk is a moderately high gravity yet simple recipe that results in an amazingly complex brew.
This limited edition brew is made with traditional UK hops, barley, and yeast. Although these ingredients typically combine for a delicious, time-honored Irish Red Ale, we increased both the hops and the malt components to put our spin on the classic. What you end up with is an “Irish Heavy” that has a bready, biscuity malt profile, and a classic, earthy hop flavor. Like an Irish Red Ale, Dundalk showcases a deep garnet hue with just a hint of roasty flavors, and like a Barleywine, it offers a substantial malt character. When compared with the standard Irish Red, the Heavy is a bit maltier and a lot boozier, perfect for a day to celebrate with the boy-o’s (or girl-o’s, for that matter)!
This year marks the 6th time we have released this recipe, and the demand never seems to diminish. Get your kit before it’s too late, the limited quantities of Dundalk Irish Heavy will not last long!
We only offer this brew once a year, so get it while you can.
