Product Details

An efficient, sanitary and inexpensive way to aerate wort in the primary fermenter. The aquarium pump forces room air through the sanitiary, in-line HEPA filter which removes dirt and contaminants. Then the air is delivered to the wort through a stainless steel diffusion stone, which promotes rapid absorption into the wort. For best results, aerate your cooled wort for 20-30 minutes.

Be confident there's plenty oxygen for your yeast
Created lots of bubbles. No more shaking or using the drill. Much easier with this. Hoping this ups my brew to the next level. One question, should I let the foam settle or skim it off the top?

Not enough air
I bought this about a year ago and used it 5 or 6 times. It no longer provides enough air pressure for the air stone. I got bubbles without the aerator attached, but it was a big disappointment to have to do that.

Yeast, lLove oxygen!
I will say this until I die the biggest change in making better beer so far is aeration . Hands down the biggest for me ...This works great. Pure oxygen is faster but at 10.00 a bottle and only getting between 4-5 batches the cost is too high for me.

A bit too powerful for 1-gallon batches.
It's a good system, but it has so much output it tends to froth my 1-gallon batch over in about 1-minute. I can only aerate for about 1 minute, but it does get the job done in this time. I've read a common complaint that the hosing is difficult to attach. I recommend heating up the end of tubing in hot water for about a minute. It will make it very pliable and much easier to attach. Cleaning can also be tricky. If water droplets remain in the tube too long, it could mildew (water will get in there during the sanitizing step). I hang most tubing vertically near a heat source to allow the droplets to evaporate. With the air stone attached, this is not possible, so you may need to detach the air stone in order to dry out the tubing. I definitely prefer this to shaking my carboy.

Misleading Photo
I chose to buy the kit rather than just the air stone because the picture shows a Whisper brand air pump (very high quality, quiet pump). When I went to use my new system, I discovered it was some no name, generic pump, and loud. The system worked great, I just felt I had been deceived. The product works, just know you are not getting what is shown.

I would suggest the following low cost modications
I bought this because it was cheaper than trying to buy the individual components, even on eBay! I had a lot of trouble as others have described. I would like to offer some suggestions:1) Getting the small air pump hose to attach to the inline filter. I got it on, but barely, even with hot water. I figured out that the 5/16" PVC tubing that I use for racking and bottling fits snuggly over this small air pump hose. The outer diameter of the small air pump hose was just a bit bigger than inner diameter of the racking tubing. Soak the racking tubing in hot water but keep the small tube cold and stiff. I was able to feed it 1 1/2" into a 3" piece of racking tubing. Once cooled, the two parts are very snub and won't come apart. I can now easily attach this home-made adapter to the inline filter.2) The aeration stone and tubing will not stay at the bottom of the carboy full of wort. I would suggest another adaptation here. I took an old racking cane that I don't use anymore and took the bottom end cap off. I then cut about 3" of the 1/4" ID aeration stone tubing that the kit came with, soaked it in hot water and fit this tubing piece onto the bottom end of the racking cane. I fit the aeration stone to the other end. I then attached a length of 5/16" racking tubing to the top end of the cane and attached that to the outgoing end of the inline filter. I tested the entire system under pressure, and nothing blew apart.3) The wort foams up like crazy! I was brewing the Smashing Pumpkin AG, and I couldn't aerate it for more than 2 minutes. The foam just would not subside either. I ended up capping the carboy and going back to rocking it for 5 minutes. The fermentation was very aggressive, so it sure wasn't lacking in oxygen. I wonder if certain beers are just going to foam up more than others? I have no solution for this problem. I guess any aeration system will run into this problem, even straight O2. In summary, with the cheap and easy modifications, I am now very happy with the product.

seams to do the trick
The one I received was not the one displayed in the pic but an air pump is an air pump as far as I can tell. The in line filter is a nice touch. My only problem is getting the stone to the bottom so I give it a quick swirl . I get very vigorous quick starting fermentations

Works as described
This works as described. It is very quiet and it seems to do the trick. I had no problem getting the hose attached to the stone as some did. I've used it three times and so far so good!

can this run on 230v/ 60 Hz?
L A on Feb 20, 2016
BEST ANSWER: No. This has to run on 120V /60 HZ. If you connected this to 220V, it would burn out the motor. The easier answer is that it will plug into a standard wall outlet in the US.
Does the in-line filter also need to be sanitized?
Brian T on Aug 18, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Short answer: No. While the air passes through it, the filter should never otherwise be exposed to any contamination. Beyond that, I don't think the filter would hold up to moisture; in fact, I've ruined one (in another application) by getting it wet. It should be sufficient to periodically replace the filter (available here and almost anywhere that sells aeration units), though I'm not sure that's even necessary so long as the filter permits a good flow.
Will this work with 220V mains power ? (I will replace the plug connector)
A C on Feb 13, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It is a basically a small aquarium air pump. 220v will not work.
My husband has the aquarium pump set up for aeration and he asked for a new stone for xmas. Not sure if I need the 2 micron or 0.5 micron. Thank you.
B T on Dec 13, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Hello Becca,

Thank you for choosing Northern Brewer! The aeration stone for that set up would be the 2 micron stone. I hope this helps, have a wonderful day!
Does this work with the .5 micron stone also?
Nate P on Jul 18, 2017
BEST ANSWER: Yes
What is the optimal time for aeration? Can it be done in more than one session?
J C on Apr 13, 2016
BEST ANSWER: This system can require about 30 minutes to get to the recommended oxygen concentration. You can do it in sessions to make sure it does not foam over..so you can turn it off and let foam settle. Cheers!
Can this be supplied to Nepal
A M on Sep 21, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I am sorry. We are only able to ship to addresses in the United States. There are a few forwarding companies out there though

that provide you with a U.S. address and we can ship to that. From there

they will be responsible for the package and any necessary documents required for shipping it to you. An online search should give you some options

if that is something you would like to pursue.
