Product Details

One stroke of the racking cane/piston assembly will start a siphon when immersed in as little as six inches of beer or wine; less than six inches may require a second stroke. Includes a removable diverter tip to minimize sediment pickup. Plastic construction; can be disassembled for cleaning.

This high-capacity auto-siphon requires 1/2" ID siphon hose (#7106).

NOTE: It is highly recommended that you use 7/16" ID tubing with the 1/2" Auto-Siphon. Simply dip the tubing in warm water to soften it enough to slip over the end.

Didn't work
Got this siphon in my 1 Gallon starter kit. The included DVD didn't really go over how to attach the tube in detail, so I checked to other videos just to be sure. Seemed straightforward. Nonetheless, the "it's so easy to use, just do 1-3 pumps to start your siphon!" is not the case, as some other reviewers have stated. I had to literally pump the entire time to siphon my beer & was unable to get the last half inch of it or so. Additionally, the repeated siphoning motion would cause the open end of the tube to pop out of my gallon, consequently spraying beer all over the place. It was a lot of work, took almost an hour, and made a complete mess. I have no idea what I'm going to do when it comes time to bottle. -- The rest of the kit & DVD gets 5 stars, but my experience with the siphon was terrible.

Better than the alternative
such better than the new fancy one, even if this old-fashioned one costs more.

The best and only auto-siphon I need
I have been through a variety of siphons now and this one is the best quality. I much prefer this over any others, including the other one Northern Brewer sells. I also prefer this over the 'sterile' siphon where you blow into the vessel.

I Like It!
works well! I tend to brew beer with lots of hops, so lots of krausen etc. Gives me pretty clear beer in spite of that!

Marketing was false
They claimed syphon will start with a short push. I have 3 other syphons and this one is the worst

All one needs
Back to basics and couldn't be happier. After having the Rack Magic that DID NOT WORK WELL AT ALL, this siphon is all one needs to rack their delicious beer. Aside from the bottom piece which will eventually disappear into beer abyss, this racking cane is perfect.

I love this auto-siphon, but when I was cleaning it, the cane came out of the plastic tube...and with it, a small plastic piece. Is there a way to put this back together correctly??
Kathy W on Jul 31, 2017
BEST ANSWER: If you mean the one-way valve, that happened to me too. I used a long dowel with a piece of masking tape on the end and shoved it down the tube and back into position then slowly rotated the dowel until the valve let go of the tape.
Will this fit thru the opening of the port hole in a glass 5 gallon big mouth bubbler?
Trent W on Sep 10, 2015
BEST ANSWER: The hole in the lid of the glass big mouth bubbler is a unique size slightly smaller than others. The auto siphon does not fit through that hole so to use an auto siphon

you have to take the lid off.
Will this fit in a 1 gal carboy?
A shopper on Oct 12, 2017
BEST ANSWER: I don't believe so. I have some half gallon growlers that I tried it in and it doesn't fit. I don't have any 1 gallon carboys to test it, but if it's a similar opening to a half gallon growler, then no. If it's similar to a 3 gallon, then yes.
The recommended tubing for this is 7/16ths, but a standard racking cane for the other end is smaller than this. I've noticed that there's no larger diameter cane available for sale. Are people just using the hose for the other end instead of a cane? Or are they using a hose clamp to stop the other end from leaking? Isn't having a smaller diameter cane on the end defeating the purpose?
R B on Jan 29, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Not exactly sure what you're asking ... "but a standard racking cane for the other end is smaller than this." Do you typically use two racking canes? One on the input and one on the output? The intended use is to put this 1/2" Auto Siphon in the higher carboy/bucket where the beer/wine is and then have it flow through the tubing into the lower carboy/bucket.
What is the difference between this product and the Auto Siphon - 5/16" racking cane? How do I choose between the two?
S F on Dec 4, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Hi Sarah,

The only difference is that the 1/2" is a little bigger, and flows a little bit faster. I've used both myself, and I actually prefer the 5/16 size. I find that the larger one can kink at the hose.

Hope that helps!

Cheers,

Charles
