I also used a secondary fermentation even thought it was not suggested in the directions, also for another week. Bottled and ready 2 weeks later.This beer is fantastic. It's light but full of flavor and just the right amount of hops. It's got a very clean taste. I've brewed 8 different kits so far this year and this would be nearly at the top, just behind SMASH. I would really like to brew this again with some dry hopping to make it more along the lines of a red ipa.September 17, 2015Great tasting red !After two weeks in the bottle, I tried it tonight. The sweet taste of the malt hits your palate along with a subtle bitterness from the hops.
I will wait a couple more weeks before trying it again and I am sure it will be GREAT ! I will be ordering this one again for sure.

9 months agoA nice hoppy beerReally nice tasting beer. It kind of tastes like one would expect for a west coast ale, with a strong hop taste. Not quite the level of some IPAs, but more than a typical ale would have. Not much of the typical red ale malt taste, as hops are pretty dominant in the finish product. This one was a big hit with my friends who like fancy beer and IPAs. I used the dry yeast US05 yeast and fermented at 65F, and let the beer go for 3 weeks before bottling. A delicious beer with a pretty fast turn around time. I aged a few bottles for an additional month, but I didn't notice any improvement. I think this is one of those 'high end taste, fast turn around' type of brews.June 14, 2015excellentI have only been brewing for a little over a year so I like to try a variety of NB's extract kits. This is the only one I made twice and that is because it is the one my friends liked (and drank) the most. Give it a try.June 12, 2015Good StuffBrewed a batch of this way back in April and put it on tap after two weeks in primary. Also decided to use a slow carbonation rather than force carbonate so didn't bother tasting until another five days had gone by. First taste was a little "green" so let it sit for another ten days and was blown away by the improvement. Flavorful, perfect amount of hops and a clean aftertaste. My second batch will be brewed this weekend and can't wait to taste it again!!October 31, 2014Substituded for Crystal Rye and Still Very Good!I converted this recipe to a partial mash and purchased ingredients at LHBS. They were out of cyrstal rye so had to improvise. Intead of 20 oz of crystal rye I subbed 10 oz crystal 60 and 10 oz rye malt. On hindsight I should have gone with 8 oz crystal 60 and 12 oz rye malt. Regardless this beer still came out very red, malty and nicely hopped (well balanced). I'm sure it would be even better with the crytal rye, but I am very happy with the results and looking forward to making it again with the crystal rye. Will order from NB next time!!January 31, 2015

Also what would the abv be?BEST ANSWER: O.G. is usually listed on the brewing instruction sheet. 1.054 for this one.This recipe doesn't require a second fermentation, however, does it hurt to put it through the second fermentation?BEST ANSWER: We loved this beer and we did do a secondary fermentation. I am not an expert, but see no reason it would hurt and we were very pleased with our results. I always find a secondary just helps clean it up and helps the flavor.This kit is for 5 gallons correct and has all I need to brew correct I want make sure I buy.
