Product details

We've gone back to the brew cave and scaled down this extremely popular kit so that you can welcome the coming harvest by brewing up a small batch of our Smashing Pumpkin Ale.

This spiced Amber Ale is infused with nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger. The spices mingle with sweet, toasty malt to frame an intensely flavorful brew. And just like its big brother, you can add real pumpkin to this recipe for a truly smashing, pumpkin ale - just add an extra pound of 6-row and a large straining bag to your order. It's outside the ordinary, delicious, and most of all fun.

Pretty good for my first brew

I brewed this kit for my first beer. Came out very drinkable although did not have the pumpkin character I was expecting. Recommend doing the additional steps with the pumpkin puree.

1 gallon, smashing pumpkin ale kit

Good brew. I forgot to buy the recommended 6 row barley for the optional mash in process. I substituted with 1 lb. 2 row, and 2 lbs pumpkin puree, all in BIAB method and mashed for 1 hour. Followed the rest of the instructions. Wow was I surprised with an OG of 1.080. Topped off water to 1 gallon, yielded a starting OG of 1.076. After 2 weeks I was gifted with an 8% Abv potion! The pumpkin spice needs help though. I even added addition fresh spice to the brew and it was still "lean" on spice. Wonderful color and mild hoppyness. I want to try this brew again, but not only add it at the end of the boil, but also to the cooled wort, stir/aerate it in, then pitch yeast.

I messed up by pulling the brew early (lol) but it still tasted nice with decent abv

Smashing Pumpkin Ale

This one turned out to be a weaker beer (only about 3-4% abv). It did not have a strong or flavorful taste. We added pumpkin purée to try to give it some pumpkin flavor and added a lot more spices. It was popular with non-beer drinkers just because there wasn’t a whole lot of strong flavors. I would like to try it again and do a few things differently because I think it could be a really good beer.

It’s just ok

We’re still waiting for this beer to be good. It’s drinkable but just ok, friends have said the same thing. I added fresh pumpkin (cooked) during boil but it’s almost not pumpkin beer except for a hint of cinnamon at the end. Pringle won’t buy again.
