Product details

A traditional Czech lager strain, Urkel allows for balance between hops and malt. It is the perfect choice for Bohemian-style Pilsners. This strain can be slightly sulphery during fermentation, but it cleans up during lagering. Fermentation at the higher temperature range will produce a beer with minimal sulfur and a light ester profile.

*NOTE:*During summer months, we include complimentary ice packs will all liquid yeast orders. However, it is difficult to guarantee that the ice packs will stay frozen given transit times and particularly hot temperatures. For this reason, we recommend ordering dry yeast during summer months.

Pilsner

I made a Pilsner with great success. Now trying this in a Festbier. Dropped crystal clear in the keg, but also used Biofine Clear to speed up the process.

Great fermentation at cold temperature

I made a starter 48 hours ahead of time due to pitching at 48F. I let the temp free rise to 51F and the first krausen foam appeared within 24 hours. At this temp, there has been plenty of sulphur, but I have no worries that it will dissipate during lagering. I usually use dry yeast, but for this Czech amber, I wanted to use an authentic Czech strain. Glad I did.
