Product details

Our Bourbon Barrel Porter is so good, we just had to scale it down to share with all the small batch brewers out there.

This black beauty is quite possibly perfection in a pint. It combines the elements of beer, bourbon, and oak to create an amazing array of compelling flavors. The smokiness of the toasted American oak cubes mingle with the dark flavors of the porter, while the sweet grainy and vanilla flavors of the bourbon reinforce the oak to tie everything together.

We recommend just a wee dram of fine aged bourbon to complement and enhance the flavors of oak and porter. The hardest part about making this beer as a small batch? It a small batch. The solution: make 2 batches today and stash one away because it'll just get better with age.

Tasty but flat

First time with a NB kit and the instructions are clear and simple to follow. Brew day had an OG of 1068, 7 days in the fermentor then added my oak cubes and bourbon and left for another 7 days (sat at 1015 for 5 for those days). Added the correct amount of priming sugar for a porter style and left them for 2 weeks before sampling, on opening there was some carbonation but far less than expected (had one at 3 weeks and no difference).
Overall a tasty beer but the lower amount of carbonation and head retention did slightly ruin the enjoyment of it.

Bourbon Barrel Porter

Why is it so flat? Taste is fine but it's like an old soft drink in a 2 litre bottle that's 2 weeks old. Can I expect this if I do a 1 gallon Stout also? The citrus IPA was excellent. What happened and how can I fix next time? Thanks!

Good but not great

My husband loved making this and had really high hopes but once the bottle conditioning was complete, the beer was flat. He could barely hear any sign of carbonation when popping the tops off the bottles and refused to even try it

A great and delicious porter!

This Porter is packed with so much flavor I kept finding myself double-checking to make sure the package says Porter and not Stout. I used some Angel's Envy with my oak cubes, adding some great depth of flavor to the beer itself. I love that I can also taste some of that smokiness from the oak cubes themselves; makes this a fun drinking beer.
