I've used this for 4 or 5 small batch brew in a bag batches, it's always worked really well for those. The controls are pretty intuitive and it always boils really well. On the Nash side, I've noticed the temperature can slip up or down a few degrees over time. I've mostly been able to control it by putting the lid on to warm it up or stirring aggressively to bring the temperature down. It's the perfect size for 1-3 gallon batches, would probably work well for a partial infusion 5 gallon batch. I will say I don't have an immersion chiller and so far I've made it work by emptying the kettle into a pot to chill, but this will certainly be an easier system to work with if you have an immersion chiller. Overall, I'd recommend this if you brew a lot of small batches and want to invest in an electric kettle that doesn't break the bank
Used my Gigawort for the first time. Used it to brew an extract kit It was easy to use and made brew day a little easier. The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the temperature shown on the kettle can be 2-5 degrees off Also I do not like the reset switch being on the bottom. Hopefully I will never have to use it. It would be nice if Northern Brewer included the silicone hose for the ball valve. All in all it is a good product and hope to use it for years to come
I bought this little brew kettle to use as a hot water tank for my bigger system. I brewed a couple extract kits with it, & it worked like a charm. It heated up to the set temperature fairly quickly and kept the correct temperature for how long I needed it. It’s a great system. I wish NB would make a larger system just like it!
Tried this product out twice before this review. Will definitely do the job of boiling wort but if you want something precise, this isnt for you. The built in thermometer is about 7 degrees too low (tested this with a manual thermometer after I hit boil early). Also, the 600W setting on the brew kettle really struggles to keep it at temp. I have to switch between the 1600W and 600W setting when steeping my grains. Overall fair for the price and for new brewers but definitely has its weeknesses.
I have brewed 8 small batches with this unit and really like it. Its easy to use if you read the instructions. I can get a five gallon batch done and cleaned up in only a couple of hours.
